The Teign Valley Larder has become a well-oiled machine. Thanks to the dedication shown by our volunteers, the Larder ensures food and other essentials are available for those who need them at key village sites.
Sadly, keeping the volume up is becoming more difficult. More on that later, but first, here is a message from Alison (not her real name), who recently contacted one of our volunteers.
“I would like to express my gratitude for the Teign Valley Larder and the work that people like you put into it. The Larder has been a vital source for myself and partner in Christow. We are both in our mid-twenties and working full time but, at minimum wage, we often struggle to make ends meet.
“This was worsened significantly as I had to take a significant amount of time off while my father was ill and even more after his passing. We would not have coped during this time if we could not have relied on the Larder.
“Not only did the Larder provide food when money was desperately tight but its near presence in the village allowed me to make meals even when I was so despairing I could barely leave the house.
“I am immensely grateful for the community support the Larder provides and for those that make it possible. I cannot thank you all enough. I can only hope that this testimony can go some way to supporting its continuation so that others may benefit as I have.”
And we are grateful to Alison for letting us share this message. There are many stories like this that don’t get told, and it is why we work hard to keeping the Larder running.
Right now, though, things are tough. We rely heavily on standing orders. While we need at least £500 a month to keep the Larder locations stocked, we are getting just over half in donations.
If you would like to help people like Alison, please consider donating to the Teign Valley Larder, which you can do by bank transfer or standing order: Teign Valley Larder CIC | 08-92-99 | 67471517.
As always, thank you for your support.
