Our Try Something New recipe kits are back! This week it’s Coronation Chickpea Baguettes. There’s also fresh produce that needs eating up so please do take what you can make use of.

Do you have an hour to spare once a fortnight? Teign Valley Larder could do with some additional volunteers to help with transferring our shopping order from the delivery point in Christow to the trailer in Christow church grounds. Ideally 2 people working together and using a car makes this job easier. Induction shift will be arranged. If interested in role or learning more, please direct message me

Our main Teign Valley Larder in Christow church needs another volunteer, alternate Wednesdays. It only takes 30-40 mins to top up our larder shelves so that stocks are readily available to those who need a bit of help to provide food for themselves and their families. Full training shift will be arranged and you would be joining over 40 other volunteers. If interested, please DM me (Vinny Logan)

The Teign Valley Larder has become a well-oiled machine. Thanks to the dedication shown by our volunteers, the Larder ensures food and other essentials are available for those who need them at key village sites.

Sadly, keeping the volume up is becoming more difficult. More on that later, but first, here is a message from Alison (not her real name), who recently contacted one of our volunteers.

“I would like to express my gratitude for the Teign Valley Larder and the work that people like you put into it. The Larder has been a vital source for myself and partner in Christow. We are both in our mid-twenties and working full time but, at minimum wage, we often struggle to make ends meet.

“This was worsened significantly as I had to take a significant amount of time off while my father was ill and even more after his passing. We would not have coped during this time if we could not have relied on the Larder.

“Not only did the Larder provide food when money was desperately tight but its near presence in the village allowed me to make meals even when I was so despairing I could barely leave the house.

“I am immensely grateful for the community support the Larder provides and for those that make it possible. I cannot thank you all enough. I can only hope that this testimony can go some way to supporting its continuation so that others may benefit as I have.”

And we are grateful to Alison for letting us share this message. There are many stories like this that don’t get told, and it is why we work hard to keeping the Larder running.

Right now, though, things are tough. We rely heavily on standing orders. While we need at least £500 a month to keep the Larder locations stocked, we are getting just over half in donations.

If you would like to help people like Alison, please consider donating to the Teign Valley Larder, which you can do by bank transfer or standing order: Teign Valley Larder CIC | 08-92-99 | 67471517.
As always, thank you for your support.

In case you wonder if the Teign Valley Larder is no longer needed, read this anonymised feedback received recently:
“Thank you so much, they were a huge help and lovely too…”. Feedback like this makes it worthwhile volunteering. And we need a couple more people to help us with our barn to trailer transfer of shopping each week. The role takes about 45 mins, once a fortnight and is best shared between 2 people, to make light work of it all. Full training will be given and you’ll be joining a lovely band of over 30 other volunteers, without whom we couldn’t function. If you’re interested to know more, please get in touch with me, Vinny Logan, volunteer co-ordinator. Role is Christow based

It’s time to Try Something New! This week in the larder we have recipe kits for chimichangas. The kit will serve 6-8 to people so perfect for batch cooking or if you have lots of hungry mouths to feed this half term. Please note that the ingredients are in two parts so make sure you collect both bags!

As well as lovely fresh food from Fareshare, this week in the larder we also have some ready meals. The outside packaging is a little water damaged but the product itself is unaffected. Please help yourselves!
