Learning happens in relationship.

Within the training group, we explore how we make contact, respond to difference and find our way through difficulty.

The group offers a place to notice familiar patterns—and practise meeting ourselves and one another with greater awareness and responsibility. This can be disturbing - but it is in this distrubance that growth happens. Our clients can only go where we have had the courage to go ourselves, not just in our heads, but in our bodies and hearts.

Our forthcoming open days will offer a chance to meet the training community and get a feel for learning here. For details, contact [email protected].

We can be vulnerable, uncertain and still be OK - even if our defences make this really hard.

This is my reflection on some of origins of the idea of life positions. As a transactional analyst I seek to accept both my wounding and my strength. This is alligned with the buddhist philosophy of accepting suffering as part of life - not grabbing onto happiness or identifying with sorrow. But allowing both to be part of the flow of my life experience.

I offer this as part of the learning journey at Transactional Analysis Cymru. Learning is not just about theory, but about transformational change. We can only offer to be with clients in what we have been willing to accept in ourselves.

Bringing yourself to the work
When we train as psychotherapists, our own ways of relating become part of the learning.

What happens when we feel uncertain, misunderstood or challenged? What do we find difficult to hear?

At TAC, these questions matter. Personal reflection and therapy sit alongside theory and clinical learning, helping us understand what we bring into the room.

If this raises questions about your own path into training, you are welcome to contact us: [email protected].

The possibility of becoming a psychotherapist

The idea of training as a psychotherapist may start with a growing curiosity about people, relationships and the experiences that shape us.

At Transactional Analysis Cymru, we offer a place to explore that curiosity deeply—and develop it into thoughtful, responsible practice.

As we approach our next application period, we’ll be sharing something of what training here involves.

We’ll also be holding open days, offering a chance to meet us and explore whether the training feels right for you. Contact [email protected] to ask questions or enquire about open days.

What does it really mean to be OK?

In this video, I explore life positions—and how accepting our shared uncertainty and vulnerability might allow us to meet ourselves and others with greater compassion.

Psychotherapy training is a significant commitment, and it deserves time for thought.

TAC’s four-year core curriculum includes ten training weekends each year, alongside personal therapy, study and, as training progresses, clinical practice and supervision.

A supportive exam group and assessment paths leading to UKCP accreditation follow the core curriculum.

If you are considering taking this journey, we welcome a conversation about what it could involve for you.

You can bring your questions to one of our forthcoming open days, or contact us directly.

We are not isolated individuals.

Each of us is shaped by relationship, family stories, culture, history, place and the wider systems in which our lives unfold. Some of these influences are known and spoken. Others are carried through the body, through images and dreams, or through patterns inherited across generations.

Depth psychotherapy attends closely to an inner world within a matrix of time, memory, context and ground.

At TAC, trainees are invited to think personally, relationally, collectively, transgenerationally and ecologically — listening for the many threads that shape a person’s unconscious process.

We meet this complexity with curiosity, humility and care.

Applications for the next training intake open on 1 November 2026.

The land enters the learning.

At Tycanol, we train between the Preseli Hills and the sea, held by the ancient temperate rainforest of Tŷ Canol Woods.

The land is not there for us to use - we are immersed in a shared relational field.

The weather changes. The body settles. Attention widens. The inarticulate finds voice.

Working outdoors invites reflection, movement, creativity and a deeper awareness of our soul in connection within a living world.

Psychotherapy training becomes rooted not only in ideas and relationship, but in body, place and the more-than-human.

Applications open on 1 November 2026.

The land enters the learning.

At Tycanol, psychotherapy training takes place within an open bowl of land, held by the ancient temperate rainforest of Tŷ Canol Woods, between the Preseli Hills and the sea.

The land is not there for us to use - we are immersed in relationship. Weather, season, movement and the more-than-human world become part of the field of attention.

Working outside can change the pace of learning. The body settles. Awareness widens. We begin to notice what becomes possible when we are no longer held only by walls, words and familiar ways of thinking.

Depth psychotherapy asks us to listen beneath the surface. The land can support this listening — offering space for reflection, creativity, embodied experience and a deeper awareness of our soul within a living world.

Applications for the next training intake open on 1 November 2026.

Turn towards challenge with curiosity.

Difference can stir — uncertainty, defensiveness, the wish to withdraw, or a grasp towards certainty, rigidity, collapse or adaption. Its happening in our world now.

Within psychotherapy training, these moments can become thresholds for deeper learning.

At TAC, Adult–Adult learning means meeting one another with honesty, dignity and shared responsibility. Culture, identity, power and intersectionality are part of the relational field in the room.

Curiosity helps us pause and wonder:

What is being touched within me? What might another person be experiencing? What is asking to be understood between us?

Curiosity does not remove discomfort. It can help us remain present enough to listen, reflect, repair and grow.

Applications for the next training intake open on 1 November 2026.
