Say what now?
The Scheme of Work is your overarching planning, where you create long-term planning in order to establish the outcomes you want your students (and you as the teacher or guide) to achieve, the strategy and approaches you’ll adopt to create it, how you’ll vary and differentiate the content and the skills and knowledge you want your students to acquire. The lesson plan is where you delve deep into the topics, skills or knowledge itself and prepare how you will present it to the class, how you will give them opportunities for engagement, empowerment and autonomous learning, the timing of when you’ll drip-feed in new things…

And this is the same in your marketing. Your editorial calendar is the zoom out, with a bigger timeline and your vision, mission and big goals at the core.

The content calendar is where you plan how you’ll translate those bigger ideas into, well, content.

It’s ok to keep repeating yourself and here’s why! 🔁

1. I guarantee you that (unless someone has added you as a favourite on Instagram - and by all means ask them to - ) most people are seeing a fraction of the work you create - it’s busy and noisy out here isn’t it
2. Hopefully new people are coming into your world frequently, and they may well have not heard about this aspect of you, your work, values, mission or personality;
3. Serve the audience you have: love them, cherish them and remind them of the things they need to hear from you;
4. It’s ok to acknowledge that you are competing for someone’s attention, and it’s ok to make it crystal clear what people can expect from you once you’ve gained it; 👀
5. mantra: how can I keep it easy? 😌 come back to this for all things business and marketing.

I’ve been really, really poorly in 2024 (tonsillitis, slapped cheek, sinusitis) and I’ve been caring for a similarly ill brood. It’s given me a lot of time to think, and an awful lot of gratitude towards past me who planned the content for Your Marketing Made Easy a while ago. Here’s what I know is important to me. And, of course, I don’t “get all these things” right a lot of the time.

But having these values and beliefs at my core, both personally and in my business, doesn’t half help when times are tough and when I still need to show up for myself, my business and my marketing.

Who are those who aren’t jealous, then?

Those who’ve found their way to their version of fluency, of flow and of consistency online and offline. Who’ve worked out the places they’re most comfortable (long-form content, reels, podcasts, tutorials, workshops-it truly doesn’t matter where you are as long as where you are is right for you, your creativity, your service and your audience).

1. people who replace the word scared with curious in their efforts in marketing;
2. people who strategically and lovingly work out where they most like to be online and put their efforts into there (for me that’s anything audio because it’s such a specialism of mine, plus a beautiful eco-system of website, podcast, Substack and Instagram, with Facebook returning when I have a VA in the future).
3. people who sell openly and with confidence, because they know how much “value” they give for free and who are happy to receive payment for their brilliant work;
4. people who value community and connection as much as individual voice;
5. people who embody my own (biased) missions of always learning, listening and creating;
6. people who recognise that if they’re wanting to make money from their work they need to be heart-led and strategy-supported.
