Hello Everyone, we are back after rebranding our society!! We have new plans coming at you so please bear with us while we roll out this new info!

First of all, we would like to apologise for not delivering on all our promises from last semester - we aimed to undertake a lot of tasks and clearly bit off a bit more than we could chew. There were gaps that we thought we could fill as a society, but in the end we did not anticipate this would be so much work along with our degrees!

But as Samuel Beckett once said “Ever Tried. Ever Failed. No Matter. Try Again. Fail Again. Fail Better.’ (Carl would love this ifykyk😉)

As a committee, we have worked together to create something that we think will be useful to you all, a simple little theatre studies society! So hello from us as your rebranded “local theatre studies support group”.

Currently we are STILL running our Monday morning study drop-in sessions from 10am-1pm in Gilmorehill room 123B, if you are looking for a nice study space for some relaxed studying definitely come along and join us! We would love to have you!

Next we have decided to disband our Journal all together, but we have one final issue that is now live on our new and improved website - link in bio. The theme of this journal is Time, Space and Place - our most requested topic from the poll we released back in October. Going forward, any writing or reviews will be posted onto our website, if you wish to send anything to us please send it to [email protected].

Finally our website will be home to a little theatre literature library, with texts chosen by our committee members. This will be ongoing and we welcome any great suggestions from you 😁

Additionally, we have decided to host a monthly creative space evening. This will happen one evening a month where you can come along and share creative ideas, or even work on your own uni projects. It is a space for some company and support during the stress of semester 2; dates to follow.

Thank you all for sticking with us during the chaotic run of us last semester. We hope to see you all at any upcoming events.

All the love,
ACT Committee

Hi all! Happy new year 🥳

Just posting a little update for you all as we have some changes in progress - we are going ahead with a complete rebrand of our society. We are new and we are learning as we go, so to take on feedback from last semester we have decided to head in a new direction. If you’d like to see what that would be, keep following us as updates will be coming soon😁

For current members, we will be in touch with you soon to share changes and adaptations to our society and we understand if these don’t meet your initial understanding of the society and why you joined us. We are working with the SRC to make this move as seamless as possible for you.

If you want more creative engagement with theatre studies and a community space to share ideas, then we might just have what you’re looking for😁

We appreciate everyone who has joined us in any of our events last year, and thank you for your continued patience as we work out who and what ACT really is!

📣OUR NEW SERIES AFTER WORDS KICKS OFF WITH A SCREENING OF NATIONAL THEATRE LIVE’S PRIMA FACIE!!📣

Join ACT as we start a new series of screenings followed by rich and engaging discussions. All for free!

Bring yourself down to the Adam Smith Building room 717 next Wednesday the 23rd of November at 18:00 to see National Theatre Live’s acclaimed production of Suzie Miller’s Prima Facie, starring the amazing Jodie Comer in her West End debut.

The buzz around this play is insane and has captured the minds and voices of many in the theatre. So come on down, bring your friends and some snacks, and see Miller’s words come to life. Afterwards (see what we did there) join us in a facilitated discussion around themes of the play, it’s dramaturgy, and the ethics of performing this polemical piece of contemporary theatre.

Trigger warning: this play includes sensitive subject matter including references to s*x, violence, and r**e. Links and numbers to reach out for help are provided at the end of the performance and will be available at this event.

We hope to see you all there and we can’t wait to hear your thoughts and opinions❤️xx

We also want to let you in on an exciting opportunity that has opened for us to be able to share with you!

From Monday 21st of November, we will be operating weekly study drop in sessions in Gilmorehill Halls between 10am and 1pm📚

We understand the importance of making time for your studies and assignments, and what better way to get on top of things than allowing yourself some time each week to get on top of things - with the bonus of being in a space where we can all help each other out.

Like a supported study, but with your peers to support you and your learning🎓!

Sign up sheet in bio to book your slot for next Monday (this will be updated weekly) ✅

We hope to see you there🤓
