Hello fellow Kendoka and Humans of the world,
We are GUKC (Glasgow University Kendo Club)! A group of wonderful students from the University of Glasgow who practise the Japanese martial of Kendo, a collection of techniques and philosophies originating from the sword practises of the samurai. GUKC was started by student members of the local kendo club, Taiseidokai, headed by British National Coac
h Gerry Kincaid (6 Dan). It has since flourished into a vibrant community of passionate practitioners that call the dojo home. in taikai (competitions), engaging in training with globally renowned kendoka guests or simply perfecting this art through a good keiko session, GUKC is always on the move in the dojo or at a social down at The Old School House. Kendo, as you will come to or already know, becomes more a way of life rather than just a martial art. We cultivate ourselves as individuals, both mentally and physically striving towards self discipline and strength of character. Kendo comes to mean something different for everyone though connection with others and the understanding of the self are undoubtably some of the most crucial. Do you have sparked curiosity or an unquestionable conviction that the art of kendo might be for you? Beginners are more than welcome to drop in for a trial session at the beginning of each semester. Bring yourself and some comfortable clothing and we shall sort out the rest. We train at the Stevenson building (Uni Gym) on campus. Our training times are:
FRIDAY 19:30-21:00, Studio 2
SUNDAY 15:30-17:30, Studio 3
