The university of Gloucestershire Accounting and Finance Department went on a fun-filled field trip to the majestic Bank of England Museum and Fintech Connect Event at the Excel Centre on 30 November 2022.
The history of the museum dates back to 1988 and presently has five sections of exhibitions which are the Rotunda, 1800-1946, the bank’s stock office, the modern economy, 1946-present, the early years, 1694-1800 and the banknote gallery. The museum has wonderful collections of sample counterfeit notes, past banknotes, printing plates, 400,000 genuine ancient gold bars and many other items. We spent two hours playing games and touring the museum. We gained invaluable knowledge on financial literacy, the bank’s history, UK economy, and the historical connections between the Bank of England and slave trade. One of the highlights of the day was when one of our students, Isoken Juliet Ekpenkhio, unlocked the financial vault using the provided clue. This won her and some students gold lapels. Lastly, we did lift the gold bar at the Rotunda room, took gold vault pictures and other lovely photographs.
The Finetch Connect event was attended by a range of major finance and fintech companies and provided an excellent networking opportunity for us all.
That’s a glimpse of our outing. Surely, there was rarely a dull moment!
