Gilly’s favourite memory of Martlet? Having to be told to phone home — because she was simply having too much fun. From the old payphones to the community spirit that defined life in the House, this is a story that will resonate with so many. This is the first in a series of short films from our Martlet alumni who joined us at the 30th Anniversary Garden Party. More to come — and thank you to our mighty Martlet alumni who took part.

In July of 1978 the first concert of 'Music Week' was held at Hurst College alongside the Close Harmony Group established earlier that year.

Our School Orchestra performed some impressive passages from Mendelssohn's Fingal's Cave and Britten's Soirees Musicales that year to demonstrate how they blended well but showed off individual strengths.

What a wonderful Sunday. We were so delighted to welcome our Martlet girls back to Hurst this weekend to celebrate 30 years of girls in Martlet House. It was a truly special day — from chapel and tours of the College to a beautiful lunch and lawn games in the Martlet Garden. A day for the whole family, and a fitting celebration of thirty years of friendships, memories and Hurst history. Thank you to everyone who joined us — it was a joy to have you back.

Hurstpierpoint College Cadet Corps was one of the original seven schools to establish a Cadet Corps in 1860. It was called The No.1 Cadet Company, 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment, and was given the cap badge of the 35th Foot.

OJ Spotlight - We are incredibly proud of Peter Thomas (Chevron, 2000) who has been selected to represent Wales at the 2026 World Masters Hockey World Cup in Schiedam, Netherlands this summer. Peter's Hurst roots run deep - his father Vince Thomas was a Master at the College for over 35 years and served two stints as Head of Hockey. Since his debut in 2019, Peter has earned 34 caps for Wales, served as both Manager and Vice-Captain, and was top goal-scorer for Wales at the Men's Over-35s World Cup in Cape Town in 2024.

What a wonderful weekend. We love when an OJ returns to Hurst - and last weekend was extra special as one of our own came back to celebrate her wedding day at the College. A beautiful occasion made even more memorable by the fact that fellow OJ Lizzie (Martlet, 2013) was behind the catering. The Hurst family never strays too far! Wishing the happy couple every happiness.
