Year 13 Students Impress at Turner & Townsend Degree Apprenticeship Workshop

🌟 Sixteen of our Year 13 students recently visited the London headquarters of Turner & Townsend for an inspiring insight workshop focused on the company’s highly regarded degree apprenticeship programme.

🏙️ Based in the heart of the City of London, with stunning views overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral, students gained valuable insight into career pathways within project management, construction, infrastructure and consultancy.

👥 As part of the workshop, students completed a challenging task modelled on activities applicants may encounter during the apprenticeship interview and assessment process. Working in teams, they researched major Turner & Townsend projects, including the Silvertown Tunnel, London Olympic Stadium, Battersea Power Station and Crossrail.

💡 Students explored the impact of these projects on different stakeholders, identified potential concerns and considered how project teams could effectively engage with and respond to stakeholder needs. They then presented their findings to Turner & Townsend staff, showcasing excellent teamwork, research, communication and critical thinking skills.

👏 The quality of the presentations made a lasting impression, with one member of the Turner & Townsend team commenting: “They need to apply now.”

🎓 Throughout the visit, students also heard from current apprentices and graduates, learned more about the recruitment process and discovered the benefits of combining university study with paid professional employment through a degree apprenticeship.

⭐ Our students were outstanding ambassadors for the school, engaging confidently with industry professionals, asking insightful questions and demonstrating the professionalism expected in the workplace.

🤝 A huge thank you to Turner & Townsend for hosting such a memorable and informative event. We look forward to developing this valuable partnership in the future.

♟️ A huge thank you to our fantastic Year 12 and 13 students who volunteered at the KS3 lunchtime Chess Club yesterday as part of their Helping Hands Project.

Their enthusiasm, encouragement and support helped create a brilliant environment for our younger students to develop their chess skills, build confidence and enjoy some friendly competition.

We are incredibly proud of the positive role models our sixth form students continue to be within the school community. Well done, everyone! 👏

Talking to a pupil about their wellbeing can feel daunting, particularly when you are unsure what to say or worried about hearing something concerning.

Our latest guide reminds educators that they do not need to be specialists to provide meaningful support.

The guide explores:
• Building warm, trusting relationships
• Choosing a safe and appropriate place to talk
• Using side-by-side conversations to reduce pressure
• Staying calm when a pupil shares a concern
• Being clear and honest about confidentiality
• Knowing when to involve safeguarding colleagues or seek support yourself

It also includes practical conversation starters to help staff open discussions gently and give pupils space to talk when they are ready.
