Centre for Advanced Training, Northern School of Contemporary Dance Pre vocational dance training programme for 13 - 16 years based in Leeds, UK. Interested young people do not need to have previous experience of dance.

Northern School of Contemporary Dance’s (NSCD) Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) is part of a national intensive dance programme devised to prepare young dancers for full-time dance training at university or specialist conservatoire level. The CAT scheme at NSCD is a pre vocational training programme specialising in Contemporary dance technique. We work with young people aged between 13 – 17 year

s who have passion, drive, artistry, commitment, creativity and ambition to fulfil their aspirations in dance. Instead we are looking for enthusiastic, ambitious and determined young people with an interest in pursuing a career in dance.

Thank you ✨

Our wonderful Group C had the opportunity to support VERVE in their performance at the last night. The CAT students performed a new piece by in a curtain raiser just before VERVE took to the stage.

Group A and B were there to support their peers from the audience and cheer on VERVE throughout the evening ❤️

Back in January, we were lucky enough to have the company dancers come in and work with all of our groups before heading off on tour. The dancers led technique and creative sessions, as well as teaching our students some of the repertoire from their triple bill, which made this whole experience even more meaningful.

From all of us at CAT, thank you for such a special and inspiring experience. Moments like these are so important for young artists 💫

Last week our CAT Manager delivered a careers talk to Year 10 students at a local secondary school in Leeds 👩‍🏫

Students learned about the National Dance CAT Scheme as well as the role and responsibilities within the manager role.

They also explored different education pathways and qualifications in dance and the wider arts sector, gaining an insight into the many careers that exist within the industry beyond performing.

Alongside our outreach workshops delivering contemporary technique and creative sessions to student in the studio, we are also able to offer careers talks for schools. students better understand opportunities in dance and the creative industries ✨

Our Outreach Workshops offer an inspiring introduction to advanced contemporary dance training for young people aged 13–16. Sessions include contemporary technique, creative work, peer sharing and discussion around next steps.

These workshops give students an insight into the CAT programme, helping them build confidence, develop skills and explore progression routes in dance.

The organisation was nominated for the One Dance UK Dance Changemaker Award ✨

We were represented on the evening by the Principal and CEO of , the Head of Learning and Participation and the CAT Manager .

We had such a wonderful evening and it was so special to celebrate with fellow staff members, directors, alumni and supporters of our programme. It is incredibly rewarding to work alongside and collaborate with such inspiring, talented, and passionate organisations and people.

We are so proud to be part of the National Dance CAT family. Together, we support and champion the next generation of dancers 🫶

VERVE is the touring company of Northern School of Contemporary Dance led by Artistic
Director Matteo Marfoglia.

VERVE comprises eighteen dancers, trained at some of the world’s leading conservatoires.

VERVE 26 company members are from Canada, Hong Kong, Israel, Poland, South Korea, Taiwan, UK and USA.

Each year, the company commissions choreographers from all over the world to create an artistically distinct, physically daring and engaging programme of dance
work. They perform physically ambitious, strikingly original dance.

In 2026, VERVE will present a visually striking, physically diverse triple bill of three new contemporary dance works by international choreographers Alethia Antonia, Andrea Costanzo Martini and Oona Doherty.
