Congratulations “The Narrow Road” 窄路微塵 The Narrow Road ! The Hong Kong film on screen earlier this month in Broadway Cinema Broadway Cinema & Theatre, was awarded “Best Original Film Score” in the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) 香港電影金像奬 Hong Kong Film Awards !
Awardee Hin-yan WONG , was also nominated for the same award last year for the film “Drifting” 濁水漂流 Drifting . He expressed appreciation in the speech, and implicitly made a wish. “My blazer was bought from second-hand goods shop, very cheap, I wore the same blazer in last year ceremony. No one sponsors my clothing this year as well, so I’m still wearing it… Then I determined that whenever I participate the HKFA (ceremony) in the future, I will wear the same blazer, until the day I can watch all films filmed by director Sum LAM in (Hong Kong) cinemas. Thank you all!”, he said (speech translated from Cantonese).
Another film directed by Sum LAM, “May You Stay Forever Young” 少年 May You Stay Forever Young , the story background is about massive anti-Extradition Law protests in 2019. The film is forbidden to be on screen in HK by HK Government. Other “sensitive” HK films such as “Blue Island” 憂鬱之島 Blue Island and “Revolution of Our Times” Revolution of Our Times 時代革命, are banned or not submitted to HK Gov’t censorship, after “Hong Kong National Security Law” enacted in 2020. Screening of these films are not allowed in HK.
Thanks for Hin-yan’s moving speech, I wish he can wear another blazer in the upcoming HKFA ceremony, and being awarded again soon!
