I know “bring your authentic self to work” is meant kindly. But what people often don’t say is that authenticity is priced differently depending on who you are and what rooms you are in, particularly in corporate spaces.

I am not telling you to shrink. Your values walk in with you every time.

I say it because I have sat in those rooms and I want you to win.

The day I couldn’t. A rare day as a working mum when the routine had to change. No gym but Peloton saved the day.

Decide in advance what the smaller version of your ambitious day looks like. Mine is fifteen minutes of movement at home.

Claude Cowork has honestly been a game changer for me.

This is one of the many ways it saves me time.
Every morning, it scans the marketing and business headlines for me. Set up once, running on a schedule, it plans, searches multiple sources and works through it independently. What comes back is a briefing, organised and ready to read. From there, the thinking is mine.

That’s how I stay informed while doing it all efficiently. Credibility isn’t about knowing everything, it’s about having a point of view worth listening to.

They think your ambition dies when you have kids. Mine got me to board level.

Getting there as a mum of two was never about working harder. It was about being deliberate with my time, my energy and my yeses.

Walks with no phone, so I think clearly enough to spot what everyone else misses

Commercial literacy, so I speak the language of business and know the levers of growth

Strength training, so I have the resilience to take the knock backs

Always looking the part, so nobody has to imagine me in the room

AI agents doing the heavy lifting, so my hours go to the decisions only I can make

Investing in my personal brand, so I am considered before I apply

Saying no to socials I genuinely want to be at, so my time goes where the impact is

Save it if you are building towards board level, and send it to the friend who thinks having kids may have limited her options.

Context is everything and I thought I would share a bit of mine. Where does my ambition come from? Why do I have such big goals and dreams?

Sometimes a look back helps you to realise how blessed you are.

My parents didn’t hand me ambition or opportunities on a golden platter. They let me watch what it costs.

Sacrificial privilege is the kind you can never pay back, only carry forward.
