📍 Earl of Dartmouth Lodge – Egyptian Room
On Saturday 18th October, we held our regular meeting of the Earl of Dartmouth Lodge in the magnificent Lodge Room No. 10 at Freemasons’ Hall – also known as the Egyptian Room

With its iconic dome ceiling, grand pillars and breathtaking Egyptian-inspired design, this room is one of the most visually striking in the building. A beautiful setting for a meaningful evening of Masonic work

We were proud to pass a Brother to the Second Degree surrounded by the splendour and symbolism that this room so powerfully represents

A memorable night shared in Brotherhood and Light

Earl of Dartmouth Lodge No. 3279 Hosts Successful Welcome Project Meeting and Initiation Ceremony

London, 17 May 2025 – Earl of Dartmouth Lodge No. 3279 was honoured to host a Welcome Project Meeting under the direction of Metropolitan Grand Lodge, during which the Lodge initiated its newest member, Bro Simon Harrison, in a ceremony noted for its quality and fraternal warmth.

The Welcome Project aims to provide new Initiates across London with the opportunity to observe a high-quality ceremony shortly after their own and to help them expand their Masonic network by engaging with Brethren from across the Metropolitan area.

The meeting was attended by W. Bro Jonathan Randall, Metropolitan Grand Inspector, the Lodge’s Visiting Officer W. Bro Tony Martin, and several representatives from Metropolitan Grand Lodge. The Lodge was particularly pleased to welcome six Entered Apprentices, each attending to observe and deepen their understanding of the Craft through the evening’s work.

At the invitation of the Worshipful Master, the Lodge’s 2023 Past Master, W. Bro Ian Graham, conducted the Initiation ceremony. His delivery, along with the Charge after Initiation, was performed with exceptional feeling and reverence and was greatly appreciated by all present.

The Lodge also took this opportunity to showcase developing talent within its ranks. Bro Tom Aylott, one of the Lodge’s younger members, was invited to deliver the First Degree Tracing Board. This was his first time presenting the piece in open Lodge and he did so with clarity, confidence, and precision, earning praise from members and visitors alike.

This meeting exemplified the spirit of the Welcome Project by providing meaningful Masonic experience, quality ritual, and an inclusive environment for new Brethren to connect and engage.

🏌️‍♂️ Earl of Dartmouth Lodge Charity Golf Event 2023 🏌️‍♂️

We had a fantastic day at our annual charity golf event held at Stapleford Abbotts golf club! Despite some last-minute changes, we had an amazing turnout with 29 enthusiastic players hitting the course.

The weather was on our side, staying overcast with light winds and no rain - perfect for a round of golf. Though the course conditions, especially the greens, need improvement, all the players made the most of it and enjoyed their time.

Congratulations to Duane Cobham, who took home the trophy with an impressive 40 points, playing off a 28 handicap! Well done, Duane! 🏆 Ian Charman secured the second place with a creditable 36 points.

We also had exciting side competitions. The "nearest the pin" on a par 3 proved to be a tough challenge, but Alan Williams managed to claim the victory for "nearest the pin in two" on a short par 4. Great shots, Alan! 🎯

After the game, some of us stayed back for a delightful Indian meal, savoring the camaraderie and memories made on the course.

But the highlight of the event was the funds raised for our chosen charities, Parkinson's UK and the M E Association. Together, with generous contributions from Upminster Golf Club, Ingrebourne Golf Club, and Allen Motor Group, we proudly raised an incredible sum of £529!

A big thank you to all the participants, sponsors, and supporters for making this event a huge success. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference in the lives of those we aim to support. Until next year's event, keep swinging those clubs! 🤝🏅🎉

Another superb double ceremony meeting at Earl of Dartmouth Lodge yesterday. We Raised a Brother to the Sublime Degree of A Master Mason, Initiated a new Brother into the Craft, and received some excellent visitors including The Met Grand Inspector Johnathan Randall and Brethren from the Scottish Constitution. Pictured is our Master W.Bro Ian Graham breathing a sigh of relief together with RWM Craig Allison (Lodge of Old Aberdeen 164) & Bro Willie Bledge (Lodge Prince of Wales 426).

On the 21st January 2023 at our 456th Regular Meeting, Worshipful Brother Ian Graham was installed into the Chair of King Solomon as our 116th Worshipful Master.

Members of the Earl of Dartmouth Lodge and their visitors enjoyed a very special afternoon and evening and it was clear that the hard work of members of the Lodge paid off. The installing, and now Past Master, W. Bro. Christopher Bennett conducted the ceremonry is a sincere, and solemn manner.

More junior Bretheren then had the opportunity to conduct their first pieces of work within the Lodge. The presentation of the working tool’s in all three degrees and Addresses were fantastic and those members of the Lodge should be proud of their work. The Hall Stone Jewel was also presented by a junior member conducting his first piece of work.

W.Bro. Ian then had the opportunity to install his officers for the year to come. He impressed all who witnessed this due to the heartfelt manner of delivery and also by delivering some extended investment ritual located in the back of the Emulation book, which are rarely conducted.

The Earl of Dartmouth Lodge consideres itself exceptionally lucky to have a Master as dedicated, caring and exceptional as W. Bro Ian. He has made clear his intentions to grow the Lodge under his mastership and beyond. And to invest time into supporting the junior Bretheren in their masonic journey. With W. Bro. Ian’s determination and vision and an already thriving Lodge, the future is bright for the EoD.

The Festive Board was held at The Plough Pub, just a short walk from Freemason’s Hall. It was the first occasion we had dined at this venue and a good time was held by all and it provided a special ending to a spectacular afternoon.

The Earl of Dartmouth Lodge continues to thrive as a healthy Lodge with new initiates in the pipeline and all juniour positions being filled with light blue aprons.

Congratulations to W. Bro. Ian, the very best wishes for what is sure to be a fantastic year ahead.

Last night, Earl of Dartmouth Lodge together with their partners and guests visited the Tower of London to witness the Ceremony of the Keys.

The Ceremony of the Keys is an ancient ritual, held every evening at the Tower of London, when locking the gates of the fortress. It is thought to be the oldest extant military ceremony in the world, and is the best-known ceremonial tradition of the Tower.

Since 1826, at exactly seven minutes to ten at night, the Chief Yeoman Warder of the Tower emerges from the Byward Tower, wearing the traditional red Watch Coat and Tudor Bonnet. In one hand, he carries a lantern, still lit to this day with a single candle. In the other he carries a set of keys – the Queen’s Keys!

He proceeds at a dignified pace to the archway of the Bloody Tower, where an es**rt is formed in readiness. This es**rt is made up of soldiers from the military garrison at the Tower. It comprises two sentries, a sergeant and another guard who represents the role of drummer (but who actually plays a bugle).

As the clock strikes ten… The Chief Yeoman Warder moves two paces forward, raises his Tudor bonnet high in the air and says: ‘God preserve Queen Elizabeth’.

The guard answers ‘Amen’, exactly as the clock chimes ten, the soldier representing the drummer sounds 'The Last Post' on a bugle.

The ceremony has never been cancelled, and has been delayed only on a single occasion due to enemy action during the Second World War.

After the ceremony (in true Masonic fashion) we retired to The Keys, a very exclusive bar within the fortress, previously known as the Yeoman Warders Club.
