🎬 Lights, camera, Middlesex! Meet our alumna, Eloho Okumo.

"My career definitely didn't follow the neat little line I might have imagined while sitting in those Middlesex studios. I'm glad it didn't."

From studying Television Production at Middlesex University to building a career across television, creative direction, writing and communications, Eloho's journey is a reminder that career paths don't always follow a straight line, and that's okay!

In our latest MDX Voices blog, Eloho reflects on her personal and academic journey, the people who shaped her experience, and the importance of staying curious, building meaningful connections and embracing opportunities along the way.

Her advice to the next generation of graduates?

✨ Don't be afraid to ask questions, share your ambitions and make connections. You never know where a conversation might lead! ✨

📢 MDX alumni, we’d love you to be part of MDX Futures Fest!

This October, we’re bringing together our alumni, employers and industry professionals to help current Middlesex University students explore what their future could look like, and we’re looking for alumni who would like to get involved.

Whether you’re established in your career, recently entered the workplace, changed direction or taken an unexpected route, your experiences could provide valuable insight to a student thinking about their next steps.

🤝Tuesday 27 October | Careers Fair
Join our dedicated Alumni Networking Space and have informal conversations with students about your career journey, industry and life after university.

🧭 Wednesday 28 October | Industry Insights
We’re inviting alumni from a range of industries to share their career journeys, knowledge and experiences with students. The day will also feature Creative Pathways, a dedicated strand exploring careers and opportunities across the creative industries.

💡Thursday 29 October | Industry Insights
Could you share your professional knowledge with students? We’re inviting alumni to contribute to workshops, masterclasses and industry-led sessions across a range of sectors.

You don’t need to have followed a 'perfect' career path. Sometimes the most valuable conversations come from sharing the challenges, changes and lessons along the way.

🌟 Interested in getting involved?
Comment below or send the MDX Alumni team a direct message and let us know which day you’re interested in, your current role/industry and how you might like to support our students.

💬"Middlesex felt like a community where I could belong, learn and develop both academically and personally."

Our latest MDX Voices Blog comes from Middlesex alumnus Rathish Baskaran (BSc Computer Science, 2019), who reflects on his journey from studying at Middlesex University to building a career across technology, data and the Civil Service.

Throughout his story, Rathish shares how his time at Middlesex helped him develop skills in problem-solving, communication, teamwork and adaptability, alongside the technical skills gained through his Computer Science degree.

These are great examples of our Middlesex University Graduate Competencies in action, lifelong skills that our students begin developing from day one and can continue building throughout their studies, careers and beyond. 🌱

Whether you're a new or returning student, your university experience is about more than gaining a qualification. Take every opportunity to develop your skills, try something new and prepare for where your journey could take you next. 😊

🎓 Our alumni have spoken!

We asked our MDX alumni:
“Looking back at your time at Middlesex, what’s one thing you wish you’d done more of?”

57 of you shared your thoughts, and here’s what you told us:
🎉 33% - Got more involved in uni life
💼 29% - Gained more work experience
🤝 26% - Built my professional network
🚀 10% - Used careers support earlier

With a new academic year underway, there’s an important message here for our current students: make the most of the opportunities around you😊

Get involved. Meet new people. Explore opportunities. Build experience.

We're helping to bring those alumni experiences closer to our students.

✨ Our new Ask an MDX Alum space on Unibuddy will give students the opportunity to connect with MDX Alumni Ambassadors, ask questions and hear directly from people who were once in their shoes.

We’re currently welcoming our new Alumni Ambassadors to the platform, and we’re looking forward to introducing them to our student community soon! 🍃

🎓 Graduated from Middlesex in May or June 2025? We want to hear what happened next.

From 1 September 2026, you will be contacted to take part in the Graduate Outcomes Survey, the UK’s largest national survey exploring what graduates go on to do after completing their studies.

Whether you’re working, continuing your studies, building your own business, travelling, looking for your next opportunity or doing something completely different, your journey matters.

By completing the survey, you’ll help build a picture of what life after university looks like and help Middlesex better understand the experiences and pathways of our graduates.

📩 Keep an eye on your inbox from 1 September and take part when you’re contacted.

Wherever your Middlesex journey has taken you, we’d love for your experience to be represented. ✨

🎓 What advice would you give your first-year self?

As students across the country make decisions about their next chapter this Clearing, we're looking back at some words of wisdom from our newest Middlesex graduates.

At graduation, we asked members of the Class of 2026 to reflect on their Middlesex journey and share the advice they would give themselves when they were just starting university.

Here are a few of their answers 💭

From taking every opportunity to believing in yourself, sometimes the things we wish we'd known at the beginning are exactly what someone else needs to hear as they start their journey.

To our MDX alumni: if you could go back to your first year at Middlesex University, what's one piece of advice you would give yourself?

Share yours in the comments 👇

And to everyone taking their next step this Clearing, good luck with the journey ahead.
