Last night, we were honoured to host the creative team behind the new West End musical “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind”.

Hosted as part of our Beyond Eurocentrism programme, the event explored themes of creativity, resilience, and intercultural translation, building bridges between the social sciences and the arts.

A huge thank you to George Harrison (dramaturg), Richy Hughes (book writer and lyricist), and Tim Sutton (composer and lyricist) for joining us, and to our Professor Denisa Kostovicova for chairing such a thoughtful discussion.

Last week, we co-hosted with the event “Coalitions of the Willing in Action: The Role of Non-EU NATO Members in Europe’s Security and Defence.”

As Europe’s security architecture undergoes significant transformation, the panel explored how non-EU NATO members contribute to European security and how the EU can work with these partners within a more flexible and cohesive framework.

Chaired by Yaprak Gürsoy, Professor of European Politics and Chair in Contemporary Turkish Studies at the European Institute, the discussion featured:

• Aaron McKeil, Academic Director of LSE IDEAS
• Pernille Rieker, Director of the ARENA Centre for European Studies at the University of Oslo
• İlke Toygür, Director of the Global Policy Centre and Professor of Practice in European Politics at IE University

Last Friday we hosted the workshop “Italy under Giorgia Meloni: a ‘vanguard’ in the management of migration and security challenges?” 🇮🇹
 
The workshop examined the policies and influence of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whose leadership of Brothers of Italy - widely classified as a populist radical right party - has positioned her government as a potential pacesetter for Europe’s radical right and beyond.
 
A few of our students had the opportunity to attend the last session of the day, a roundtable discussing the mainstreaming of radical right ideas in migration and security policy in Europe.

Sponsored by the Political Studies Association Excellence and Impact Fund, the event was organised by the Italian Politics Specialist Group, in collaboration with the LSE European Institute.

This week, we hosted an event celebrating the launch of “The Oxford Handbook of Constituent Power”, a new volume exploring the intellectual roots, key actors, and contemporary manifestations of constituent power today.

Co-hosted with Alternatives to Capitalism, the discussion was chaired by our Professor Jonathan White, who contributed the chapter “Vanishing Point: How the Future Shapes Constituent Power.”
