Bank Holiday weekend ☀️

For some, it’s a chance to switch off. For others, a change in routine, busy places, family commitments or simply the pressure to enjoy yourself can feel like a lot.

So take the quiet moments. Get outside. See a mate. Say no to something if you need to. And check in on someone who might be finding the long weekend harder than it looks.

There’s no right way to spend a Bank Holiday.

From everyone at Icarus Charity, take care of yourselves and each other.

Last week two of our team had the pleasure of attending The Military Human webinar with Nick Woods at York St John University. This was recommended by one of our lived experience panel on the FIRST PETT study. As civilians, the course was an excellent opportunity to deepen our understanding of the impact of military life; particularly the impact of transition and adjustment to civilian life after leaving the forces.

The team are privileged to speak often with ex-service personnel in delivering FIRST PETT and we are confident that attending this course will bring greater appreciation and empathy to our work. For anyone who works with people who have served, attendance on this CPD should be strongly encouraged. The Military Human is now available as an online platform, so accessible at a time to suit you.

We would be grateful if any female veterans (regular, or reservist) would be willing to take part in our research exploring reproductive health needs of UK and Canadian female military veterans and ex-police officers, and associations with occupational exposures and mental health.

Participation involves completing a survey which takes around 20-30 minutes. (Topics include all areas of reproductive health and occupational exposure including some sensitive, eg. pregnancy loss, infertility, sexual assault and harassment.)
