The Edgar Wind Society for History of Art

The Edgar Wind Society for History of Art Oxford University's student society for the promotion of, study and engagement in art and art history

The Edgar Wind Society for Art History aims to broaden the experience of art and art history in innovative and engaging ways for all those interested in the subject. Named after the first History of Art professor at Oxford, we also echo his interdisciplinary approach by encouraging links between art history and other disciplines. We organize regular events including discussions, guest speakers, fi

lm screenings and exhibition tours that touch on a broad number of areas of visual culture. Our notable past speakers include journalist Waldemar Januszczak, Emeritus Professor of Art History Martin Kemp, former Director of Exhibitions at the RA Kathleen Soriano, and feminist art historian Griselda Pollock. As well as a series of exclusive gallery tours at the Ashmolean Museum, architectural tours of Oxford and College art collections. The society works in collaboration with the Meller Merceux Gallery. Our members are encouraged to write for the termly society journal, Oculus, and to get involved with the wider artistic community. All with an interest in the discipline are encouraged to join. Keep updated with our events, news and notifications via the website, page and twitter -
