Oxford University Powerlifting Club

Oxford University Powerlifting Club The official page of the OUPLC. The Oxford University Powerlifting Club (OUPLC) was re-established in 2007. Lifters of all experience levels are always welcome.

We exist to help individuals interested in competing within the sport of powerlifting, and helping individuals learn how to correctly squat, bench press and deadlift. We provide training and ensure progress by providing the members with the facilities and equipment necessary to excel. Alongside dedicated powerlifters, the club includes sporting men and women from various other disciplines such as:

boxing, athletics, rugby, and gymnastics; as well as several members who simply enjoy training as part of a healthy lifestyle, without any sporting ambitions. We operate club and squad training sessions throughout term time. The Powerlifting Varsity competition is a yearly event against Cambridge's CUPLC. A team of 16 lifters are selected from our club members based off of competition performances and the Oxford University Sports Federation recognises the OUPLC as a discretionary full blue sport. If you have any questions, or would simply like to chat about lifting, feel free to email or message any of the committee members or visit the website www.ouplc.co.uk/

meet the committee (part 2) and it’s your 2026/27 captains!!!

as always, here’s a few words…

Samantha: Excited to be women’s captain this year! I’ll be helping to run the squads as well as 2027 varsity which will be held in Oxford (some exciting stuff, still begging the club to let me buy confetti cannons) I’d love to get more women into the sport and hope I can create a supportive and welcoming atmosphere, just as others did for me when I joined :)

Gus : I have been into powerlifting for a couple years and I want to inspire more people to get into the sport as the men’s captain, where I’ll be in charge of the Varsity squad of this year. I’ve only been a member at OUPLC for 2 terms since I started at Oxford, and I am grateful to have found such a welcoming community to help me feel at home in a new city (some of the first friends I made in Oxford were the OUPLC members when I came to train in 0th week Michaelmas).

Talyn: Super excited to be your novice captain this year! Here to be a friendly face around the gym, if you want to get started with powerlifting, I’m your man! And DO CUPPERS (sign ups coming out soon!) šŸ‹ļøšŸ’œšŸ’Ŗ

meet the 2026-2027 committee!! (part 1)

a few words from our new president, secretary and treasurer…

Adam: I’m really excited to be serving as President this year. OUPLC is more than just powerlifting, it’s a community, and my aim is to make sure it stays supportive, welcoming, and well-run for everyone, whether you’re new to lifting or have been around for years. The club and the sport have had a huge impact on me: this was my first real experience of being part of a sports club, and I was welcomed with open arms and supported to improve without any sense of judgement. At a time when I was rebuilding a bit of confidence and trying to find my footing again, OUPLC gave me a real sense of place. That’s something I really want to preserve and pass on to others. Feel free to reach out any time, whether you’re thinking of joining or already part of the club. Looking forward to a good year with everyone!

Gwen: I’m Gwen, long-term OUPLC committee member and Secretary this year. I’ll be keeping the emails flowing and am always happy to answer all your questions on the club and getting into competing!

Sam: As Treasurer, I’m here to make sure the club is stable financially. I also want to make sure that each member feels they’ve got the most out of their subscription. As a committee member I want to represent the club in all its many facets, whether that’s in the gym, in meetings, at comps or at socials.
