Bitesize Ethics 2026: Life, death and difficult decisions

Join us online every Wednesday from 24th June to 12th August for this year's summer programme, offering an introduction to ethical issues affecting decisions taken around the beginning and end of life of living things, based on current research from academics at the Uehiro Oxford Institute. The series addresses themes such as conscience and conscientious objection, age-based decision-making, AI and life extension, the ‘badness’ of death, and difficult decisions in healthcare, finishing with a wrap-up discussion looking back at the topics covered.

Prof Julian Savulescu has been elected to the Academy of Medical Sciences as a 2026 Fellow.

The new Fellows have been elected to the Academy in recognition of their outstanding contributions to advancing medical science, through discovery research, translational work and the application of scientific knowledge in ways that deliver tangible benefits for patients and the wider public.

Prof Savulescu says 'It is a great honour and a tribute to many colleagues past and present who have contributed to the work we have done over the last 25 years. I would like to thank them and the Academy.'
