Out and about and one of our sites today, only to find our interns selling the products they made in their Enterprise lessons. The interns were given the task of coming up with an idea that would make a good business idea, they had to work out the costs involved, selling prices, and potential profit.

As you can see from below they decided on making Tie/Dye bags, this wasn't just the act of dying them they had to be taken home to be ironed, (well done to the staff for doing that).

These young people have really enjoyed this process and it has opened their eyes, they are not always saying we can't do that, but quite the opposite of what can we do next. Hats off to the Choices College staff who have supported this in the Darlington cohort, you know who you are.

And obviously if you would like one of these bags you better be quick, they are going like hot cakes, any money raised will fund the next enterprise task.

National Autism Month:

Celebrating Neurodiversity at Choices College

April marks National Autism Month, a time to celebrate neurodiversity and raise awareness about autism, its challenges, and its extraordinary contributions to society. At Choices College, a specialist education provision with a supported internship program, we are proud to work alongside many autistic students who enrich our community with their unique perspectives, talents, and resilience.

As an institution dedicated to empowering students with diverse needs, our approach is founded on inclusivity, understanding, and tailored support. Choices College offers educational opportunities and practical internship experiences that help our autistic students thrive. By fostering environments where every learner feels valued and supported, we create pathways for success that embrace individuality and celebrate the strengths of neurodiverse minds.

Autism is a spectrum, and the experiences of autistic individuals are incredibly varied. At Choices College, we celebrate these differences by encouraging creativity, innovation, and the ability to think outside the box—traits that many of our autistic students embody. Through our supported internship program, we aim to bridge the gap between education and employment, equipping students with essential skills and confidence to pursue their dreams.

National Autism Month also reminds us of the importance of advocacy and inclusion. Autistic individuals often face barriers, misconceptions, and stereotypes that hinder their ability to reach their full potential. At Choices College, we strive to challenge these societal obstacles by fostering understanding and promoting equal opportunities. We call on employers, educators, and community leaders to join us in creating inclusive spaces in all its forms that embrace diversity.

This month, let us all take the time to listen, learn, and engage with the experiences of autistic individuals. By educating ourselves about autism and recognising its beauty and complexity, we contribute to a world that respects and celebrates neurodiversity. At Choices College, we are inspired by the courage and determination of our autistic students every day—and we are committed to advocating for their voices to be heard and their talents to be recognised.

Let’s honour National Autism Month by shining a spotlight on neurodiverse achievements and fostering a culture of acceptance and opportunity for all. Together, we can build a future where every individual, regardless of their differences, has the chance to thrive.
