A lovely glimpse into today’s Level 6 Major Project tutorials!

‘s concept is developing through childhood memories, nostalgia and playful explorations of print, colour and playful childlike illustrations. Bringing together personal memories, expressive drawings and material experimentation to shape a nostalgic and playful DNA for her final-year fashion collection.

Yesterday, our Level 6 BA (Hons) Fashion Design students had their first formative review for Major Project: Concept with & .torres_studio

A great opportunity to share their Collection DNA Wheels, discuss their developing ideas and receive feedback on their progress with colour palettes, shapes, silhouettes and material experimentation.

Exploring ink making and motif development with our Level 4 BA (Hons) Fashion Design students.

Led by TORIA the session moved from making oak gall ink to experimental mark-making, drawing and motif development, exploring how materials and processes can generate unexpected visual languages for textile and fashion design.

A lovely day of making, testing, observing and discovering through materials.

Back to campus! 🎓✨

This week we welcomed our BA (Hons) Fashion Design students back to the University of Portsmouth for Induction Week.

It has been wonderful to see the studios coming back to life — welcoming our new students as they begin their fashion journey with us, while also seeing lots of familiar faces returning and getting ready for the year ahead.

A week of introductions, conversations, inspiration and reconnecting — and just the beginning of another busy and creative year of designing, making and experimenting together.

We’re also back on social, so keep an eye on this space as we share more of what happens in our studios, our students’ work, projects and life on the course throughout the year.

🚶‍♀️🌿 Walking, fashion, research and new ways of learning

We’re delighted to celebrate Victoria Jowett, Lecturer on BA (Hons) Fashion Design, who will be presenting at this year’s The Walking Multilogue: Decentralising and Dehierarchising Learning and Teaching in Fashion on 30 September.

The international programme brings together 33 leading walkers facilitating 20 walks across four continents, exploring how walking can open up new approaches to learning, teaching and research in fashion education.

Victoria will be sharing how walking has shaped and influenced her own research practice, contributing to an international conversation around alternative, place-based and embodied approaches to fashion education.

We’re very proud to see research from our Fashion Design team contributing to conversations about how and where fashion learning can happen. 🌱🚶‍♀️

A huge thank you to all Year 10 students who visited the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries yesterday to take part in Gel Plate printing workshop by Rachel Homewood. It was fantastic to see everyone experimenting with colour, mark making, textures and pattern to create wonderful unique prints.
