"How do I know if I have the right experience for this job?" Here's how πŸ‘‡

The first thing to do is take a look at the job's person specifications (or candidate criteria) and see what sort of experiences or skills they're asking you to demonstrate - that is, to write about in your application.

,πŸ’ Then, think about some examples when you've developed or used the skill they're asking for.

πŸ’ If they're mentioning specific experiences, try to remember when you've had similar experiences in previous jobs or extracurricular activities.

πŸ’Œ Pro tip: check your mySkills portfolio to see all your past experiences at a glance and choose from there!

πŸ’Œ Bonus tip: if the job description is asking for a kind of experience you haven't had but have the skills for, focus on demonstrating these skills when writing your application.

❓What other skills are you struggling to demonstrate in your job applications?

pov 🧍your skills standing there waiting to be seen and appreciated

It can be quite tricky to identify the skills you have if you haven't practiced self-reflection before. But there are ways you can get better at it and become comfortable talking about your strengths! πŸ‘†

Job applications often ask you to ❗demonstrate❗a set of skills - that means to show that you've developed and can use the skills you're describing, by using examples from your past experiences.

πŸ’Œ Save this for the next time you're writing your applications for jobs or further study or preparing for an interview.

Are there any other skills you've been struggling to demonstrate in your applications or interviews? πŸ‘€

Job applications 🀝 ramen recipes

Next time you're applying for jobs and feeling like this 😫 - think of it this way!

🌟 You most likely have more skills than you may think, and it's so important to remember that many (if not most!) of them are transferrable - meaning that you can use them for more than one role and in more than one industry.

πŸ“ For example, the same type of critical thinking skills that you develop through your course can be used both for your dissertation and for a job that requires evaluating options or data. And that's a lot of jobs!

πŸ’Œ Pro tip: before thinking whether the job you're applying for is something you're totally confident doing, think of situations when you've developed and used the required skills!

You've probably heard the term 'sustainability agenda' before - but what does it really mean? πŸ‘€

🌟 Having a sustainability agenda differs from one organisation to another and it can take many shapes.

🌱 Here are some useful ways to think about what it can mean in the context of an organisation - and some tips on how to get informed about it.

❗️ However, having a sustainability agenda doesn't necessarily mean an organisation is *sustainable*. In many cases, it means that they're on a path towards becoming more sustainable and planning to make progress towards it.

πŸ” Check out where the organisations attending the Autumn Careers Fairs next week stand when it comes to sustainability by heading to the Fairs Webpage at the link in our bio and using the filters.
