Don’t miss out on your chance to join us on Thursday 3rd October, at the next event of our Leaders and Entrepreneurs in Residence Programme!

A Systems Approach to Programme Delivery: Trials, Tribulations & Triumph with John Pelton MBE.

The seminar will offer an in-depth exploration of the challenges and successes involved in large-scale, complex projects and programmes delivery. It will highlight the complexities that arise during planning, ex*****on, and completion, from funding and stakeholder management to unforeseen obstacles and policy changes. A systems approach to infrastructure delivery emphasises interconnectedness, ensuring that all components, including technology, people, and processes, are aligned for optimal efficiency and adaptability. By adopting this holistic perspective, the seminar showcases how integrating various elements can lead to more resilient and successful infrastructure outcomes.

We are delighted to share that Southampton Business School has been awarded the Athena Swan Bronze Award by Advance HE. This is a significant achievement for SBS, recognising our progress in over the past years and our commitment to further improvement.

The submission of the bid was the result of an inclusive approach, involving a large self-assessment committee with diverse representation of colleagues in terms of gender, levels of seniority, and career pathways. Many congratulations to all colleagues involved, and special thanks to Larisa Yarovaya and Holly Street for coordinating the submission.

We are excited about this significant milestone and all the positive changes it will bring for our team and our student experience.

The winners of our Big Writing Challenge competition earned an incredible opportunity to visit investment firms Allspring and Barings in London. As part of the competition, students submitted entries in the style of Financial Times articles on a topic of their choice. It was a great experience for our students overall as it provided them with invaluable knowledge about early recruitment opportunities and what it is like to work and thrive in financial services. It was an inspiring and insightful day for all.

A special thank you to Simon Troup and Olivia Vickers for welcoming us to their offices and to Roy Edwards for judging all the entries.

Congratulations to all our shortlisted candidates Yitian Yang, Rueben Mardell-Kearns, Anoushka Patel, Fawwad Malik, Zain Ali and the top two winners Jenna Lee and Tom Hosford for their great achievements and for making the most of this unique competition and experience!

The EDO team were delighted to come together with our postgraduate students and colleagues for a memorable evening at Harbour Hotels Southampton for the annual PG Summer Ball celebration. Students and colleagues enjoyed breathtaking views of the harbour, delicious food and drinks, and a buzzing evening on the dance floor.

It was a wonderful evening and great to see so many people coming together to celebrate the academic and personal successes of our students over the past year. The evening was filled with joy and the spirit of celebration, recognising the hard work and achievements of our postgraduate community. The students hosted games and quizzes and there were prizes won by many!

A big thank you to our PG Summer Ball organising team who supported the event and thank you to everyone who attended and made the evening special. We look forward to more celebrations in the future!

We are delighted to be welcoming Mark Enzer – Strategic Director at Mott MacDonald, for his seminar: Towards a Circular Economy - The Case of the Built Environment... And Beyond

It’s time that we saw projects differently: not as a series of siloed outputs, but as interventions into pre-existing systems whose purpose is to enable people and nature to flourish together for generations. Within this context, we simply cannot continue exceeding the limits of our finite planet. Therefore, to have a sustainable future, organisations must embrace the circular economy, and we need to work together to make this a reality. The built environment is a particularly poignant example.
