Our fantastic Animal and Environmental Biology students from ARU Cambridge recently attended their annual Shropshire field residential, hosted by the Field Studies Council at Preston Montford HQ 🌿

The trip showcased outstanding enthusiasm, curiosity and determination throughout the week.

Activities included a guided walk at Stiperstones National Nature Reserve with Natural England, alongside expert talks from organisations such as the National Trust.

Students also took part in a wide range of fieldwork activities, exploring local habitats and searching for species including otters, polecats, great crested newts, white-clawed crayfish, upland birds and ancient woodland flora 🦦🐦

This residential plays a vital role in developing the practical skills and key Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) competencies needed for careers in ecology and environmental management, bringing learning to life in the field.

ARU’s academic team — Toby Carter, Sarah Hart, Kevin Bright, Prof. Danni Green and Jim Littlemore were incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication shown throughout 💚

ARU will close for the Easter break at 17:00 on Wednesday 1 April, and we will reopen on the morning of Wednesday 8 April.

🌟Student Achievement Spotlight!🌟

We’re delighted to celebrate Jack Ingram, a BSc (Hons) Cyber Security and Digital Forensics student, who recently took part in the Scotland Cyber Week challenges (Levels 1–3), hosted by Siker Cyber and was selected as one of the prize draw winners🎉

As part of CyberScotland Week 2026, Jack completed the SOC Investigation Challenge, an online exercise designed to mirror the workflow of a Security Operations Centre (SOC) analyst responding to a developing cyber incident. This offered valuable exposure to real‑world investigative processes and industry‑aligned skills.

Congratulations to Jack on this achievement, and thank you to course leader Andrew Moore and Steven Shepherd for providing ongoing support and guidance, with special thanks to Tim Harwood, CEO at Siker Cyber 👏
