🎉 Friday’s celebration at Pontio was all about you – our amazing Peer Guides – and everything you’ve done to support new students this year.

👏 A big shoutout to Azaz Ahmad (School of History, Law and Social Sciences), who was named Peer Guide of the Year!

Azaz was nominated by Dr Gareth Evans-Jones, who said:
“Azaz was extremely supportive of all the students, events, and staff… a perfect example of what a successful Peer Guide could be.”

💬 Ever thought about becoming a Peer Guide? Now’s your chance!

Peer Guides help new students settle in, make Welcome Week amazing, and gain valuable skills along the way. Want to find out more? Come chat with current Peer Guides at a drop-in:

📍 Wed 26 Feb, 1pm-2pm – Outside Undeb Bangor, 4th floor, Pontio.
📍 Tues 11 March, 11am-12pm – Mezzanine, 2nd floor, Pontio.
📍 Mon 17 March, 2pm-3pm – Mezzanine, 2nd floor, Pontio.

Being a Peer Guide comes with some great perks – employability skills, paid casual work opportunities such as during Open Days as a Peer Guide, and an official Peer Guide t-shirt! 👕

has organised an Airport pick-up service 🚌✈ for our overseas students on the 22nd January this year. Coaches will be departing from Manchester airport throughout the day. We need students to help welcome the new arrivals at the Ffriddoedd Village from 3pm until 8pm (you can be there for part of the day or the whole session).

Duties will involve:
- Welcoming the students when they arrive 👋🏾.
- Helping them get around the Ffriddoedd campus 🙋🏼‍♂️.
- Collecting hall room keys 🔑.

Bar Uno will be used as a hub and central meeting point.

A briefing will be held in Bar Uno before the first coach arrives in Bangor, at 3pm.

✨ Meet Nokutenda, one of our new Peer Guide Ambassadors! ✨

Nokutenda Moyo, a first-year BSc Medical Science student from Zimbabwe and Mozambique, is passionate about helping fellow students feel supported and welcomed. For Nokutenda, being a Peer Guide is all about creating connections, offering guidance, and building a community.

In her free time, you’ll find her getting lost in a good book, playing the guitar or piano, or capturing moments through photography. These creative hobbies are her favourite way to unwind and express herself. 🎶📸📚

✨ Meet Ola, one of our new Peer Guide Ambassadors! ✨

Ganiu Olamilekan Durowoju (known as Ola) is a final-year Accounting and Finance student from Nigeria. What he enjoys most about being a Peer Guide is connecting with people from different backgrounds and making a meaningful impact on their academic journeys and personal growth.

When he’s not hitting the books, Ola’s love for music and fitness keeps him busy, and he’s also an active member of (BAFS). 🎶⚽️

Want to take your Peer Guiding experience to the next level? We’re looking for TWO new Peer Guide Ambassadors to join our team! 🎉 This is a paid role at £13.45/hr, and it’s a great opportunity to help us promote the Scheme and recruit Peer Guides for Welcome Week 2025!

✨ What you’ll do:
Create a buzz on campus with drop-ins, flyers, and more!
Promote Peer Guiding in lectures and on social media 📣;
Make videos for the Student Bulletin, MyBangor, and beyond 🎥;
Be a part of planning and training for the Scheme!

🔍 Who we’re looking for:
Current Peer Guides with a passion for the role;
Confident presenters and communicators;
Team players ready to make an impact;
Welsh-speaking skills desirable for at least one of the positions 🗣️.
