TTU and Partners Lead the Charge for a Greener Tomorrow
Ahead of the global World Environment Day celebration on June 5, Takoradi Technical University (TTU)-FBNE- has joined forces with the Church of Pentecost, CorpNation Foundation, and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to launch an inspiring public education drive for environmental sustainability.
The campaign kicked off with a vibrant awareness session at the Church of Pentecost, New Site Assembly, bringing together pupils from five local schools—Pentecost Preparatory, Good Shepherd Anglican JHS, Rev. Cobbah Yalley JHS, Nana Brempong III Complex School, and Archbishop Porter A Primary School. This initiative is dedicated to cultivating environmental consciousness in our youth, transforming them into proactive stewards of our planet.
Key leaders shared profound insights on our collective responsibility to the Earth:
Prof. Gladys Quartey, Dean of the Faculty of Built and Natural Environment at TTU, highlighted the event’s theme, "Inspired by Nature for Climate, For Our Future," serves as a clarion call to protect the vital natural resources upon which our survival depends. She emphasized that true sustainability requires us to act today with the needs of future generations in mind.
Apostle Sam Gakpetor, National Coordinator of the Church of Pentecost’s National Discipleship and Leadership Development Committee, reminded us that caring for the environment is both a vital civic duty and a sacred responsibility.
Mr. Anthony Botwe, Programmes Director of CorpNation Foundation, warned against the severe health and environmental impacts of poor plastic waste management. He introduced the foundation’s 4R+ Framework (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recover) as a powerful tool to combat pollution and restore our ecosystems.
The mission continued at the Apremdo Central and Takoradi New Markets, where traders received practical guidance on maintaining clean, healthy spaces. Mrs. Mary Ampiah, Queen Mother of Apremdo Central Market, praised the initiative, urging all traders to adopt these essential waste management practices to safeguard their community.
As we approach -World Environment Day- a movement established by the United Nations in 1972—let us all be encouraged to take bold, practical steps toward a sustainable future.
