We are excited to announce that the Laboratory of Geodesy and Geoinformatics and the SenseLab research team of the Technical University of Crete, under the scientific coordination of Professor Panagiotis Partsinevelos, and with the support of EASN - European Aerospace Science Network, are organizing the TUC Space Summer School, a summer program dedicated to the latest developments in space science and technology.

The program creates an interdisciplinary learning and collaboration environment, bringing together scientists, researchers, and young professionals interested in the rapidly growing ecosystem of space science and the new space economy.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of thematic areas covering key aspects of the space sector:

🏛️ Space Architecture

Through lectures, discussions, and interactive activities, the program aims to inspire the next generation of scientists and professionals who will contribute to shaping the future of space research and technology.

During the summer school, participants will travel to the island of Gavdos for a one-day field experience. They will visit the satellite altimetry calibration station located on the island and spend the night camping in tents, while also taking part in astronomical observations using a high-precision telescope.

Tο Εργαστήριο Γεωδαισίας και Γεωπληροφορικής έχει προσκαλέσει τον Dr. Demetrios Matsakis [Chief Scientist for Time Services, USNO, ΗΠΑ] να δώσει διάλεξη στο Πολυτεχνείο Κρήτης. Η διάλεξη δίδεται την Τρίτη 4 Απριλίου 2017 και ώρα 18:15 στο μεγάλο αμφιθέατρο 141.Π.98 του Κτηρίου Επιστημών στο Πολυτεχνείο Κρήτης. Τίτλος της είναι "Time in the Modern World".

Ο Dr. Demetrios Matsakis, ο επονομαζόμενος “Father of time” (πατέρας του χρόνου) είναι υπεύθυνος για το Master Clock, δηλαδή το θεμελιώδες ατομικό χρονόμετρο της Αμερικής και την τήρηση του παγκόσμιου ατομικού χρόνου. "Το “Μaster Clock” στηρίζεται στη λειτουργία 100 και πλέον ατομικών χρονομέτρων τελευταίας γενιάς. Είναι τόσο ακριβή ώστε να μην χάσουν ούτε ένα δευτερόλεπτο μέσα στα επόμενα 300 δισεκατομμύρια έτη. Αποτελούν την καρδιά του δορυφορικού συστήματος Εντοπισμού GPS (Global Positioning System), και όχι μόνον!. Η διάλεξη θα δοθεί στα Αγγλικά.

Με τεχνογνωσία του Πολυτεχνείου Κρήτης έγινε, το προηγούμενο διάστημα, αποτίμηση των επιπτώσεων από τον ισχυρό σεισμό 7,8 Ρίχτερ που είχε πλήξει την Νέα Ζηλανδία τον Νοέμβριο του 2016! Oσεισμός είχε προκαλέσει και Τσουνάμι που καταγράφηκε...
