Welcome to the 16th edition of ExTech, the International Symposium on Advances in Extraction Technologies, to be held in Chania, Crete, Greece, from 25th -28th May 2014. The ExTech symposium series is the flagship event for sample preparation, analytical extraction and sample clean-up techniques. The series, started in 1999 by University of Waterloo analytical chemistry professor Janusz Pawliszyn, has been held annually around the world and has become a unique and vital medium for the exchange of information and ideas in the expanding field of sample preparation. In its 16th year, this cutting edge international research meeting will be hosted by the School of Environmental Engineering of the Technical University of Crete from 25th to 28th May 2014 on the island of Crete, one of the most attractive travel destinations in Greece. This symposium will take place in the Centre of Mediterranean Architecture, a historical monument located in the heart of the Venetian port in Chania, featuring contemporary architectural interventions that will provide an inspiring backdrop to the meeting. Contributed sessions will showcase innovative research, cutting edge technology, as well as new products and techniques in a broad range of analytical and applied areas, including environmental, food and flavour, natural products, forensic, nanoanalysis, pharmaceuticals, bioanalytical and biomedical. To mark this year’s meeting, the key theme will be “Sample Preparation for Clean Oceans and Seas”. A short course on this theme will be held on the 25th of May 2014. Join many other scientists and practitioners, from academia, industry and commercial laboratories, active at the frontiers of the expanding field of sample preparation, as they gather to discuss groundbreaking research and confer with colleagues.
