When Truth Hurts: Why Neo-Greeks Panic When Harvard, Oxford & Cambridge Pull Back the Curtain
There’s a simple truth that many modern Greeks – or better, Neo-Greeks – still refuse to accept: they are not the descendants of the ancient Hellenes. And the pill becomes even harder to swallow when this truth is served not by their so-called enemies, but by prestigious Western institutions like Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge. Numerous academic studies clearly demonstrate that the modern Greek population has little to no genetic, linguistic, or cultural continuity with ancient Greece.
Instead, another group repeatedly appears in these studies: the Albanians. Whether it’s population continuity in Epirus, research into the language of the ancient Illyrians, or the roots of Hellenized populations – it’s the Albanians who show traces of those peoples who shaped the ancient Mediterranean world. And that’s exactly what sends Neo-Greeks into fits of denial.
The Typical Reaction: “Soros!”
Present them with these studies and you’ll instantly hear the name “Soros.” Anything that contradicts their romanticized self-image is dismissed as “Soros propaganda” – a reaction driven more by fear than logic. Because what if it’s true? What if the “noble descendant of Pericles” is in fact a Slavicized Peloponnesian with Anatolian ancestry? That would shatter the entire myth of modern Greek national identity.
And Then Comes the Contradiction
But the contradictions don’t stop there. No sooner have they labeled these studies “Zionist lies” than they pivot to their favorite antisemitic narrative: Albanians were “N**is,” collaborators with fascism. And here, their entire logic collapses.
Because if Albanians were truly N**i collaborators, as they claim, why would a Jewish billionaire like George Soros – supposedly the architect of this “Albanian propaganda” – support them? This contradiction reveals not just their intellectual inconsistency, but also the desperation behind their arguments.
The Real Pain: An Identity Crisis
What we’re witnessing is a classic psychological defense mechanism. The truth cuts deep – it shakes the very foundation of their identity. If the descendants of Alexander the Great turn out to be the offspring of Byzantine peasants, Vlachs, or Slavs, the national myth starts to crumble.
Albanians, on the other hand, don’t need myth. Their history, language, and presence in Epirus, Macedonia, and beyond are real, measurable, and well-documented. They don’t need to pretend. And that’s exactly what hurts those who have lost themselves in the mask of antiquity.
Conclusion: Truth Doesn’t Need Propaganda
In reality, no Soros, no Zionist plot, no grand conspiracy is needed. The facts speak for themselves – and they’re publicly available. Those who refuse to read them are simply afraid. Afraid of looking in the mirror.
