👏 The FCE Annual Forum 2026 was successfully held on 28 July, bringing together around 90 participants.

The Forum featured experienced researchers sharing valuable insights on securing competitive research grants and developing successful proposals, alongside discussions on recruiting Hong Kong PhD Fellowship candidates.

💡 Thank you to all speakers and participants for contributing to an inspiring and knowledge-rich event.

The Bachelor's Degree Scheme in Construction and Environment (BDSCE) Orientation Session was held on 26 August 2026 and marked the beginning of an exciting journey, featuring a welcome and introduction by our Associate Dean (Teaching and Global Engagement), Prof. Charles WONG, alongside programme briefing sessions by the BDSCE Scheme Leader, Prof. Jacqueline LO, and representatives from each department. 🤝

Students also connected with their Academic Advisors in groups to learn more about university life and support available to them.

We are delighted to have you joining the FCE family! Here's to new friendships, exciting opportunities, and a fulfilling university experience ahead! 🌱🏗️

We are proud to share that the FCE has once again achieved outstanding results in the Research Grants Council (RGC) General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS) 2026/27. 🎉

FCE continues to demonstrate excellence in research and innovation. Here are the results:
🔹 HK$44.7 million in competitive research funding secured
🔹 48 funded projects awarded in 2026/27
🔹 39% of all funded projects in Hong Kong's Civil Engineering, Surveying, Building and Construction (CESBC) disciplines were awarded to FCE researchers
🔹 FCE maintains the leading position in the CESBC disciplines of the Engineering Panel

These achievements reflect our researchers' dedication to addressing real-world challenges and advancing knowledge in construction, sustainability, infrastructure and the built environment. 🌱🏗️

[🌞 𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙮𝙐 𝙎𝙪𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙚 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨]

It has been an exciting two weeks at PolyU Summer Institute 2026, organised by the Student Admissions and Scholarships Office (SASO)! 🎓✨

FCE was delighted to welcome aspiring students to explore the exciting worlds of construction, sustainability and the built environment through faculty sharing sessions, hands-on workshops, laboratory visits and an exclusive visit to The Henderson. 🏙️🔬🤖

Students had the opportunity to experience immersive activities across our five departments during the Faculty attachment programme of the residential camp:

🔹 ARCH: Sustainable STEM Building Materials for Future Architects
🔹 BEEE: Hands-on Use of Robotic Vehicles
🔹 CEE: Tower Challenge: Engineering with Straws, Tape and Imagination
🔹 CMI: Explore and Engage: Construction Technologies
🔹 LSGS: Equipment Demo and Showcase of Research Project in HiVE

Beyond the residential camp, FCE also offered the non-credit-bearing subject SI0201 Sustainable Urban Development for the Summer Institute, providing students with a taste of undergraduate education at FCE and introducing them to contemporary urban sustainability challenges. 🌱🏢

A big thank you to our staff, student helpers and industry partners for making this event a success. 👏

🎉 Warm congratulations to Prof. Yi-Qing NI, Chair Professor of Smart Structures and Rail Transit of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), on receiving the prestigious 16th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award!

Recognised as one of China's most respected engineering honours, the award celebrates Prof. Ni's decades of pioneering contributions to civil engineering and infrastructure innovation. 🌉🚆

His groundbreaking research has led to the development of advanced Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems that help assess the safety and condition of major infrastructure throughout its lifecycle. Today, his innovative methodologies have been widely adopted in large-scale bridges, rail transit systems and other critical engineering projects.

Through his dedication to smart infrastructure and sustainable engineering, Prof. Ni continues to make lasting contributions to the safety, resilience and future development of smart cities.

👏 We are proud to celebrate this remarkable achievement and his continued leadership in engineering research.

🏆 Congratulations to Prof. Tommy WEI, Professor of the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering (BEEE), on receiving the prestigious HUAWEI Spark Award!

Prof. Wei and his team have long dedicated to the underlying mechanisms of the human visual system, translating research findings into innovative solutions for full-link multimedia systems ranging from camera capture to screen display. Addressing a major bottleneck in display colour calibration for this year’s HUAWEI challenge, the team leveraged visual science research to deliver a breakthrough engineering solution. This innovation significantly enhances the colour calibration accuracy and user experience of product displays. The technology has already been deployed, making a tangible contribution to the advancement of display technology worldwide.💡⚙️

Their achievement demonstrates how academic research can drive technological advancement and create a tangible impact on industry and society. This perfectly exemplifies the direct relevance and practical application of FCE’s research to everyday life.
