We mourn the passing of Dr Stephen Au Ling Ming, a distinguished professional, devoted alumnus, and cherished friend of the Department of Applied Physics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).
Dr Au’s connection with PolyU spanned decades. He began his journey with us in 1982, graduating with a Higher Diploma in Applied Science from Hong Kong Polytechnic, and he later crowned his academic pursuits with a Doctorate Degree in International Real Estate and Construction in 2025. His achievements were recognised by the University with the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award in 2017, a testament to his professional excellence, integrity, and contributions to society.
As Managing Director and Founder of MTECH Engineering Co., Ltd., Dr Au built a respected career in engineering and construction, exemplifying the innovative and practical spirit that PolyU strives to instill in its students.
Since 2021, Dr Au served as a Member of the Departmental Advisory Committee, Department of Applied Physics, PolyU, where he was a strong and steadfast supporter of the Department’s development. He offered generous advice, encouragement, and support to help strengthen our programmes, enhance industry engagement, and create better opportunities for our students. His wisdom, vision, and commitment have left a lasting mark on the Department and the wider PolyU community.
Dr Stephen Au Ling Ming will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments, but also for his kindness, humility, and dedication to nurturing future generations.
Our deepest condolences go to his family, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His legacy will continue to inspire us.
