Today, we were delighted to celebrate the 𝟮𝟭𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 with our 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. A big round of applause to all our graduates on reaching this important milestone! 👏

As Professor Yang Rui, Dean of Education, reminded us in his speech, we hope that our graduates will 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲. We are pleased to share that 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗴, Associate Professor in the Faculty’s Academic Unit of Human Communication, Learning, and Development, has been awarded the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗔𝗦𝗛𝗔 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀, offered by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The ASHA Certificate of Recognition for Special Contributions in Multicultural Affairs is awarded to honour the distinguished achievement and contributions of ASHA members, as demonstrated through significant accomplishments in audiology and/or speech-language pathology and/or hearing, language or speech science in the areas of multicultural research, clinical service to multicultural populations, and multicultural professional education.

Co-organised by the HKU Faculty of Education and the HKU Department of Psychology, the Distinguished Lecture “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐭” was delivered by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐞 from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto on June 29, 2026.

In the lecture, Professor Lee shared fascinating insights into how academic cheating develops across the lifespan. The lecture also highlighted how factors such as self-control, trust, moral development, and educational environments influence cheating behaviours, offering valuable perspectives for educators, parents, and researchers.

The lecture also featured a lively discussion session. Moderated by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐮𝐦 from the Department of Psychology, the session included Professor Kang Lee, and 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐘𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐋𝐢, the discussant from the Faculty of Education. Together, they further explored issues related to academic integrity, assessment culture, child development, and the challenges posed by emerging technologies such as AI.
