❤️ Beautiful beyond a doubt… ❤️ but why a hummingbird? 🐦
👩🎨 The artist behind our amazing logo, Rebeka Karajos, is giving you a behind-the-scenes look into how our hummingbird came to life.
"I created the logo last spring at the request of Professor Ildikó Csépes. 🙂
Originally, we wanted to use an apple to evoke the tree of knowledge. However, I quickly discarded this idea because I did not find it specific enough to language pedagogy. I looked through various symbols and considered the parrot; however, since repetition is not the essence of language learning, we ultimately decided against it.
In the end, we decided to go with the hummingbird on Professor Csépes’s recommendation, as she found the following interpretation of the symbol:
'Hummingbirds are known for being energetic, curious, and intelligent — all qualities of a great learner and teacher. They symbolize resilience and joy in the pursuit of learning.'
Many different versions and preliminary designs were created before the logo received its final form and color scheme. I designed all of them in Adobe Illustrator. My aim was for the logo to be visually striking and clean, while not being too modern or overly minimalist for the visual identity of a university department."
🙏 Thank you, Rebeka, for helping forge the identity of our amazing team! 💛
