Title: Data-driven order fulfilment for electronic groceries: Current research and future directions
Language of the event: English
Abstract:
Order fulfilment in online grocery retailing comprises three core phases: replenishment, picking, and delivery. Each phase is associated with complex decision problems that pose significant operational challenges for retailers. This talk examines the specific characteristics of these phases, illustrates them with real-world data, and presents data-driven approaches to support decision-making at each stage. The objective is to enhance operational performance across the fulfilment process and to strengthen profitability in this sector characterised by tight margins. Combining theoretical insights with practical implications, the talk adopts both a managerial and analytical perspective. It concludes with an outlook on future research directions, with particular emphasis on sustainability-related objectives.
