Regatta – Dragon boat racing
26 and 28 June 2026

Call for Participation
The Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences will host the large-scale Regatta Festival between 26 and 28 June 2026 on the banks of the Holt-Körös in Szarvas. We warmly invite all students and staff members to join this summer-opening festival — either as competitors or as enthusiastic supporters — at MATE’s former Szarvas campus.

This increasingly popular and spectacular water sport attracts more and more university students and amateur competitors each year, from both Hungary and beyond, who are eager to test themselves as paddlers or drummers. Competitors will take to the water on a two-lane racecourse of approximately 200 metres.

The boat itself is an impressive sight: around 13 metres long, shaped like a 21-person canoe, with a dragon’s head at the bow and a dragon’s tail at the stern. The paddlers sit along both sides of the boat and, moving in perfect rhythm to the beat set by the drummer and under the guidance of the steersperson, propel the vessel forward with remarkable coordination and teamwork.
A maximum of 24 teams and 100 supporters may register for the event. Each team consists of 21 members, and every team must include at least four female competitors.

A high-level delegation from Southwest University (SWU), China, visited the Gödöllő Campus of MATE. The delegation was led by Zhang Weiguo, President of the university, and was welcomed by Rector Csaba Gyuricza.

The purpose of the visit was to elevate more than two decades of successful research and educational cooperation to an official strategic partnership level.

Key milestones of the meeting included:

• Expanding international-level research projects within the framework of the joint research laboratory.

• Joint education initiatives: the parties reviewed the possibilities of launching a joint bachelor’s programme focusing on food quality and safety.

• Researcher mobility: strengthening bilateral exchange programmes. This summer, five of our researchers will travel to China, while MATE will also host Chinese scholarship students and researchers in Hungary.

Both institutions expressed their commitment to extending their educational and research collaboration to additional scientific fields in the future.

🌍 Real corporate challenges, innovation, and sustainability all in one place – international university teams competed to showcase their knowledge

The first international Anthropocene Case Study Competition, jointly organized by the University of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Bonafarm Group, has successfully concluded. During the three-day event, international 🛫 and Hungarian 🇭🇺 student teams competed to determine who could deliver the best solutions to real-world agri-food industry and sustainability challenges.

The three-round challenge attracted significant international interest:
📌 28 countries

Following the two online rounds, 13 teams advanced to the final, hosted at MATE’s Gödöllő campus, where finalists presented their solutions in person to the professional jury.

All participating teams demonstrated outstanding creativity, professional expertise, and an innovative mindset in addressing the case study. At the final round of the Case Competition held in the Aula of MATE, Zoltán Kovács, Vice-Rector for Science and International Affairs at MATE, and István Barok, Director of Strategic Business Development at the Bonafarm Group, shared their celebratory thoughts with the audience.
