From the Dean:
For more than one century since its establishment, Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia (FKUI) has played a key role in fostering better healthcare in Indonesia. History has proven that FKUI has contributed significantly in producing qualified doctors, be it at international or national level. I am pleased to see Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia as one of the best 30
medical school in Asia, based on QS survey in 2010. This achievement has highlighted FKUI as the best medical school in Indonesia, while also partaking in international competitive scene. FKUI aspires to be a leading research-based faculty of medicine in Asia Pacific and to be one of world’s best 80 medical schools in 2013. In order to accomplish its vision, FKUI complies with international standards in its academic and research activities. Medical education in FKUI has matched up to the International Standard Program by World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). It includes nurturing Five-Star Doctors, each being a care provider, decision-maker, communicator, community leader and manager in one. In academic year 2009/2010, FKUI trained a total of 1303 undergraduate students in collaboration with 832 academic staff. There has been 44 foreign students who joined in clinical rotation in FKUI since 2006. In addition to producing general practitioners, FKUI is committed to nurture masters and doctoral programs (PhDs) in various healthcare disciplines. There are currently 300 students in master programs in Medicine, Biomedical Science, Nutrition and Occupational Medicine and 195 students in doctoral programs in Medicine and Biomedical Science. In order to support internationalization of FKUI, since year 2000 we have established International Class Program in collaboration with University of Melbourne, Monash University, and recently University of Newcastle in 2009. Presently, International Class Program educates 324 students. FKUI also pledges to conduct international-level researches. Our international network collaboration, aimed to advance our research quality, has been established with foreign medical schools and other international institutions. Medical Education & Research Center (ME & RC) was set up as a crucial project initiative in collaboration with Islamic Development Bank (IDB). Moreover, FKUI is launching six Integrated Research and Service Centers. Another important milestone in research is HPEQ and PHKI grant that has been entrusted to FKUI. These projects are initiatives toward establishment of more research facilities for further research development, especially in healthcare disciplines. With appropriate resources and smart partnerships, I believe FKUI’s vision will be well-achieved. I am proud to be part of FKUI that is strategically positioned in conducting quality medical education and research.
