Some news from the PCI Community, from today, PCI Counselling Service is Counselling First Ireland.

Since 2014, the service has offered affordable, confidential counselling across Ireland, with sessions from €30.

What’s staying the same: your counsellor, your venue and the level of care you receive.

What’s new: a new name, a new look and new social channels.

We are excited for this new chapter for Counselling First Ireland. Follow Counselling First Ireland, to find out more about the new name and share this post with anyone who might benefit.

Too old to study counselling? Not according to Dan O’Mahony.

The Certificate in Counselling & Psychotherapy is a foundation course built for people coming back to education. You don’t need any prerequisites or previous qualifications. What matters is your life experience.

There are two short assignments, both pass or fail, so there’s less academic stress than you might think. Our students come from every background, and range from 20 to 60 years of age.

October is ADHD Awareness Month, and we’re delighted to share a new blog post from PCI College lecturer Eileen Hopkins.

Congratulations to PCI College lecturer Aoife Ryan, whose research has just been published in the European Journal for Qualitative Research in Psychotherapy.

Dan was working in retail job before starting the certificate, He didn’t get the points for psychology. Now he lectures at PCI College.

Dan wanted to study psychology after the Leaving Cert, but the points were too high. Then he realised it was never really psychology he wanted. It was counselling and psychotherapy, and the chance to work as a therapist and help people.

He started with our Certificate in Counselling & Psychotherapy, moved on to the BSc, and now teaches Years One to Three on that same degree.

His advice if you’re unsure? Go for it. It’s not a huge time commitment, and it’ll show you whether this is the path for you before you commit to a full degree.

Our Spring Certificate starts in March 2027. Apply at pcicollege.ie or tap the link in our bio.

We are living through a time when hybrid work, heavier workloads, and constant change test our emotional resources every day.

That is why emotional intelligence is no longer just a nice-to-have soft skill. It is a practical, learnable capacity that helps us communicate better, cope under pressure, and build genuine connection.

Our latest piece explores what emotional intelligence actually is, why the evidence says we need it now more than ever, and how you can start building those skills.
