UCC Subaqua Club

UCC Sub Aqua Club is the scuba diving and snorkelling club at University College Cork, Ireland. Check out our Group also: www.facebook.com/groups/UCCSAC

UCC Sub Aqua Club was set up many moons ago to allow UCC staff, students and alumni access to the underwater world around Ireland and further afield. We train new divers and snorkelers through the CFT (Comhairle Fó-Thuinn) system of learning. CFT is an Irish diving organisation and it's qualifications are recognised internationally through CMAS, one of the world's oldest diving organisations. We dive regularly around Cork, and other diving locations around Ireland including, Kerry, Galway and Clare from our RIB. The Club Committee for 2020/21 are:

Some more amazing photos 📸 from our trip to Mayo recently. This time its the incredible shots taken by Stephen Frawley and Vanessa Keane who joined us for some dives on Achill Island.

First up was Bills Rocks a few miles out, followed by the beautiful cliffs of Achill head. So much life and colour here, it was a very special day. Thanks for sharing your photos with us Stephen and Vanessa 😁

Another amazing weekend ☀️ saw some nice diving in Oysterhaven. Thanks to instructors Sean and Rob some more trainee dives have been completed ✅️

Congratulations to Chloe on becoming our latest qualified D1*. Great to see most of last years trainees now finished their training and the club is getting ready to take on a new group of fresh members in a few short weeks 😁

2 weekends ago saw the club head to Mayo for the West Dive Rally. What a brilliant setup by Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club Thank you so much to all the team for organising such a brilliant weekend.

Dives on the SS Thames and M/V Shingle were the highlights underwater, with an amazing amount of life and colour. Thanks to Felix Butschek for providing such great underwater photos for everyone.

With the summer coming to a close, the club is looking foward to the start of a new college year, which can only mean 1 thing....... New Trainee Time!!! Keep an eye on the socials over the next few weeks for how to meet the club and come diving with us 😁

BIG NEWS🥳 New Club Compressor!!💨

Last Friday saw the team from Airtec Compressors Ltd complete the commissioning of our new Coltri Compressors beast😁 After a hectic weekend, we had to come back and do a quick training session and enjoy the MUCH quieter new machine. It was sad to see our old lady leave us, but after 18 years of work and a huge amount of diving for the club, it was time to say goodbye 🤗

We have to say a massive thank you to UCC Sport for providing so much help and funding to get this off the ground. Thanks also to UCC Buildings & Estates for facilitating the install. And of course our brilliant committee for all the research, organising and prep to pull it all together 👌

Some congratulations are due this week in the club 🎇

Well done to Emilia 🤠 on completing her training dives and becoming the clubs newest Diver 1* over the weekend at Hook Head. Its really great to see people get qualified and ready to enjoy more diving 😁

A massive well done also to Club Dive Officer Randal and instructor extraordinaire Sean on both completing the final exam in their Diver Cox'n Instructor course last night. We cannot do what we do without our instructors and it is brilliant to have even more teaching ability in the club.

A huge thank you to all who have dedicated time and effort to allow us to reach these milestones, especially Don from Cork Sub Aqua as director of the instructor course.

Some great diving over the last few days with the lovely weather we had divers in groups essentially on each end of the Cork coastline! 🦭

Toor Pier with the stunning sunset views had some lovely relaxed camping 🏕️ style diving with plenty of jellyfish 🪼 !

At the other end the Ling Rocks with crayfish, wrasse 🐟 and countless of jewel anenomes. As always lush with life ! 🤩

No better way to cool off in the heatwave then being meters underwater 🫧

A great June weekend trip away for UCCSAC in Portmagee, diving around Valentia! 🐟

Congratulations to Alisha, Wiktor and James on all becoming D1* divers this weekend ! 🎉🤿

With brilliant weather ☀️ we had plenty of diving and almost comically scenic views with plenty of puffins & including even a deer sighting 🦌.

Sea life was lively with plenty to see - many fish 🐠, jellyfish 🪼, carbs 🦀 , big crayfish and so much more !
A massive thank you to all who helped to organise and worked together to make a lovely weekend happen !

Oh but there is a grand stretch in the evenings and that can only mean one thing.... Evening dives are back!!! We love this time of the year so we have more opportunities to get in the water. Last week some members headed down for some lovely trainee dives at 7 Heads in Cork. Congratulations to .moore084 for qualifying as our newest D1*.
