Media Studies at Maynooth University offers a BA in Media Studies, combining both digital and AV media, and Media & Cultural Studies within the BA Arts programme. The study of media is a wide-ranging activity; the development of media channels, technologies and systems is wrapped up in the development of the societies we currently live in and how we live in them. Media Studies examines how mediate
d communication works through language and images, through particular technologies organised in political and economic systems, and for audiences that can be part of a shared public that lives with and uses media forms in diverse ways. Any one of these areas can form the basis for deep questioning and research, yet it is rare that one area can be – or should be – considered in isolation from the others. At Maynooth University we offer a BA degree in Media Studies combining study of both digital and AV media and Media & Cultural Studies within the BA Arts programme. We also offer an MA in Critical and Creative Media which offers students a range of theoretical and creative modules, as well as the opportunity to engage with other disciplines. We can supervise PhD research across a range of specialisms, as well as supporting practice-based doctoral research.
