One-Day Seminar on Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and National Integration Held at Tripura University.

The Department of Political Science, Tripura University, organized a one-day seminar on “Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and National Integration” on the occasion of the 136th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, students, and staff of the university.
The seminar was graced by Prof. Samir Kumar Shil, Registrar (i/c), Tripura University as the Chief Guest. Prof. Mohan Debbarma, Head, Department of Philosophy, Tripura University, attended as the Special Guest, while Dr. Aparna Das, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Tripura University, was present as the Guest of Honour. The session was presided over by Prof. Alak Bhattacharya, Head, Department of Political Science, Tripura University.
The programme commenced with the National Song followed by the rendition of the Tripura University Kulgeet, creating a solemn academic atmosphere. The Welcome Address was delivered by Sri Anindya Sarkar, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, who highlighted the continuing relevance of Ambedkar’s ideas in strengthening democratic values and national unity.
A special segment of the seminar featured presentations by four students, who spoke on different dimensions of Ambedkar’s thoughts on national integration. The students emphasized issues such as social justice, equality, constitutional morality, and the need for inclusive development, reflecting Ambedkar’s vision of a cohesive and just society. Their presentations added a vibrant academic dimension to the seminar and encouraged active student engagement.
The seminar was coordinated and conducted by Dr. Sumon Ali, Faculty Member, Department of Political Science, Tripura University. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. V. M. Darlong, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science.
In their deliberations, the speakers reflected on the immense contributions of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar towards nation-building and national integration. They noted that as the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, Ambedkar laid the foundation for a democratic framework based on justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity—values that remain central to India’s unity in diversity.
Ambedkar strongly argued that national integration cannot be achieved without eliminating social inequalities, particularly caste-based discrimination. He emphasized the concept of social democracy, where political democracy must be supported by social and economic justice. His vision underlined that true unity emerges only when every citizen enjoys equal rights, dignity, and opportunities.
The speakers further observed that Ambedkar’s ideas continue to hold immense relevance in contemporary India, guiding efforts towards inclusivity, social harmony, and nation-building.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem, marking the successful culmination of a meaningful and intellectually enriching academic event.
