West Bengal State University actively participated in the virtual interaction with Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion of the Nasha Mukti Viksit Bharat Sankalp. In the presence of the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Debabrata Mitra, teachers, students, research scholars, and non-teaching staff activity participated in the programme, which was screened live at Ichamoti Hall, West Bengal State University. The enthusiastic participation of the teachers, non-teaching staff, research scholars, students, and security personnel, despite the holiday, was truly praiseworthy and reflected their collective commitment to the vision of a drug-free and developed India.

West Bengal State University solemnly observed the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on 6th July 2026 at Icchamoti Hall.

The programme commenced with the rendition of Vande Mataram, followed by floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. The commemorative seminar was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Debabrata Mitra, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, who highlighted the life, vision, and invaluable contributions of Dr. Mookerjee to the nation. The occasion was further enriched by insightful lectures delivered by Prof. Pratiti Ghosh (Department of Physiology) and Dr. Soma Bhadra Ray (Department of Bengali), reflecting on the legacy and ideals of the great educationist, statesman, and nationalist.

Observance of International Yoga Day 2026...
The International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 was observed at West Bengal State University on 21st June 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation Officers, Teachers, Non teaching staff, Research Scholars and students. The programme was graced by the esteemed presence of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Professor Debabrata Mitra, along with the Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Librarian, Inspector of Colleges, Deans of different faculties, faculty members, non-teaching staff, students and research scholars.
The programme commenced with a brief discussion highlighting the implication of yoga in promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being in everyday life. Emphasizing the theme of this year, “Yoga for Healthy Aging,” the Yoga Trainers explained various yoga postures and practices in accordance with the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP).
The participants were introduced to different yoga asanas, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques following Common Yoga Protocol. The importance, health benefits, and proper methods of practicing these yogic exercises were demonstrated and explained in detail. The session encouraged participants to adopt yoga as a regular practice for maintaining physical fitness, mental peace, and healthy ageing.
A total of 150 participants enthusiastically took part in the programme, making the observance vibrant and successful. At the end of the session, the participants collectively pledged to practice yoga regularly and contribute towards building a healthier, happier, and more developed society through the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.
