The college was founded way back in 1964 in Shayampur village of Howrah
district some 75 kms away from Kolkata in the close vicinity of Gadiara – a
well known tourist spot of southern West Bengal. Late Murari Mohan Manna - the visionary pathfinder – being identified with
the common man’s right to enlightenment and appreciating the necessity of

family for their empowerment, founded the college with whatever resources
he was endowed with. The genesis of the college was modest, as it offered general stream courses
in humanities; science and commerce, but consolidating on the foundation of
vision for growth, the curriculum bouquet soon started enriching itself to
impart honours curriculum in many of the subjects and today the college has
14 departments of which 9 departments impart honours curriculum. The college being the only one of its kind within the radial periphery of 25
kms, has delivered the need for higher education to a vast section of the
under-privilege
d society for the last four and half decades, through the
unquestioned commitment of teachers and the members of non-teaching
staff. To be in tune development - mission wise, the college got itself assessed by
NAAC in September 2010 and was awarded Grade ‘B’...
