It is one of the six new IITs established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, located in Chhattisgarh state.

“Composed, Constructed and Woven: A Writing Workshop” was conducted on August 25 at IIT Bhilai. The guest speaker for the event was Dr. Susmita Basu Majumdar, professor of History at Calcutta University. Dr. Majumdar, a published poet and a professional lyricist, spoke to the audience at length about her personal experiences in the journey to getting her books published as well as her serendipitous foray into becoming a highly successful lyricist. She gave tips on improving one’s writing skills and stressed on the need for continuous practice towards perfecting the craft. She introduced the audience to different forms of short poetry in both Hindi and Urdu, through recitation and exposition. The workshop also included writing exercises for the attendees, all of which were given extensive feedback by Dr. Majumdar. The attendees termed the session immensely beneficial and even provided possible avenues for a follow-up workshop in the future.
