A unique concept, conceptualized by department of General Surgery - Grant Medical College Mumbai in collaboration with Indomed devices. This is distinctive model where bystanders and health care workers are not infected when a infectious patient is transported within the hospital or shifted to another hospital. There are "HEPA filters" which filter the air going in or out of the chamber. These filters capture organisms as they pass through it.
A Made in India innovation.

This poem speaks about the transition from a junior to a senior doctor... And how in that journey ,that innocent, emotional junior gets lost somewhere in the process... As we become more engrossed in the art of medicine, we slowly lose touch of our human side.
This is an attempt to once again find that humane JR in us...

This poem, written from a doctors perspective, talks about the slow transition from being a junior to becoming a senior. A junior doctor is the first point o...

Covid -19 -A Surgeon’s Perspective

Monday,
25th may 2020,
3:00 AM.

The shrill ringtone of my phone je**ed me out of my slumber. My junior resident(JR) was calling from the emergency room(ER).
‌”Sir! A 25 year old homeless male has come with pain in abdomen.X-ray shows gas under diaphragm.”This is a surgical emergency which would require urgent exploration in the operating room(OR).Without waiting for her to finish I rushed to the ER.Quickly donning my PPE I examined the patient.Upon further enquiry,it was revealed that he had been brought by another homeless person. He had already been refused by other hospitals as COVID status was not available and the patient needed emergency surgery.Patient started deteriorating vitally so we tried to stabilise him first.Within the next thirty minutes, his blood investigations and most importantly his swab for COVID-19 was taken.I glanced at my watch.4:00am.COVID testing at this odd hour would be a Herculean task.So my JR ran all the way to COVID-19 rt-PCR lab which is nowhere in the vicinity of the ER,wearing a PPE,carrying a large ice box in her hand to maintain the cold chain. But it takes minimum 6 hours for the swab test results. The patient was rapidly deteriorating so we decided to open him up without waiting for COVID status.Patient was shifted to the OR and as COVID status was not known, all of us-a team of four surgeons-wore PPEs.Patient had been symptomatic for a long duration and intraoperatively multiple intestinal perforations were seen which was further complicated by multiple dense adhesions. With bated breath we proceeded and once the last skin suture was taken I looked up at the clock. The surgery had lasted for 5-6 hrs.I appraised the rest of my team. The same exhaustion writ on all our faces. We were all drenched in sweat owing to the PPEs.My colleague collapsed in his chair, but I could feel his lips turn into a smile, sense the satisfaction in his eyes. Then I turned to my JRs,both of whom were beaming with pride. We had been working in the wards since the last 36hours,but this moment more than made up for all of it.This feeling of having saved someone’s life, while risking your own,is unparalleled.

The completeness of the triumph that is attained on being able to save atleast one life amidst this chaos,is inimitable.
And now I understood why it’s called the noble profession.

- A proud surgeon

Happy Mother's day !!!

Happy mother's day!!!

The inspiring story of a brave mother....

A girl born in middle class family in Nashik with ambition to become something but lands up in trouble after her mother's death at the age of 13 this incident made her quit her school education and was raised by her blood relatives and they ended their formalities by finding husband for her, poor girl thought everything will go fine she gave birth to 4 childrens 3 girls and a boy, everything was going fine then one day suddenly again she found herself amidst trouble her husband died leaving her alone with 4children without any resourses to feed them.
But as human nature whenever we becomes hungry we find all the ways to feed our hunger, her hunger was big so she searched all the ways to feed her 5stomachs, she met one of the NGO and they appointed her in JJ hospital for care of 1patient with 80rs per day 15years back. She then started getting more job offers and sharted loving her job as curing people made her happy.
She raised her all four children by working hard with heart full of love and care not only fed their stomachs but motivated them to become independent in society now her 2 elder daughters are working and earning along with education and younger daughter worked so hard and got selected for MBBS in one of the government hospital in MUMBAI.
STILL SHE IS WORKING IN JJH WITH SAME ENERGY, LOVE AND CARE FOR HER PATIENTS
IN LIFE YOU DON'T NEED TO CRY AND ASK FOR EVERYTHING BETTER IN LIFE,JUST BE STRONG IN FRONT OF YOUR PROBLEMS WITH FULL CONFIDENCE AND TRUST YOUR DESTINY, EVERY PHASE OF LIFE HAS SOME TIME PERIOD SO ALWAYS TELL YOUR HEART 'THIS TOO WILL PASS'...

Let nothing go waste.

A good initiative to help those in need and bring to use every bit of nourishment.

All unused food packages that were being provided to the resident doctors, were to be collected and kept in boxes labelled as -
1) Fruits,
2) Packaged items (Bun, butter, chocolates, curd) and
3) Rice boxes.

Once collected, packaged food was sanitised from outside and then distributed to prevent any kind of fomite transmission.

By the end we had following food items left in the boxes -
27 rice boxes, 17 apples, 8 frootis, 4 curds and 2 kitkats.

With that around 25-30 roadsiders were fed. The distributors used gloves, masks, face shields during food distribution to the poor.

The same will be followed for rest of the meals in coming days.

Keeping up the helping spirit and being together in this fight.

MARD appreciates such initiative by fellow residents and supports their commendable work.

Dr Shivang, Resident, Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, Mumbai featured in this short film published by The Quint.

The extent to which the body and mind is stretched while working for 6-8 hours straight in PPE cannot be described. But the satisfaction that it brings along is the most pristine feeling that one experiences. Just a humble request to all is that treat us like fellow human beings and not someone with superpowers.

Hours of duty in COVID-19 wards while working under stressful conditions, Mumbai doctors have been overwhelmed over the last few weeks. Some of them share th...
