Hello and welcome to SHPE, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Chapter of Missouri University of Science & Technology.

SHPE is a social-technical organization whose primary function is to enhance and achieve the potential of Hispanics in engineering, math, and science. The Missouri S&T SHPE chapter engages in activities that develop its members' leadership skills, professional experience, and activities that increase community involvement in our vision. Mission SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize their fullest potential and impacts the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development. Vision SHPE's vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians and engineers. HIstory The SHPE chapter at the Missouri University of Science and Technology was established on February 27, 1992. Twenty-eight students and a faculty advisor, Dr. Mariane Trujillo, founded this chapter through the Student Life Department at the University of Missouri-Rolla, which became Missouri University of Science and Technology on January 1, 2008. In 1998, Dr. Hal Nystrom and Dr. Robin Collier took on the roles of advisor for our chapter. In 2001, Dr. Ronaldo Luna became the SHPE faculty advisor. Walter Bethea and Shannon Cox are currently the advisors. SHPE-Missouri S&T was established as and remains to be the only recognized student organization on campus for Hispanic students.

Last week on Monday, we had a Mock Interview Workshop with General Motors. They discussed their manufacturing process and their mission; zero emissions, zero accidents, zero traffic.

They covered some general tips and tricks for interviews and then gave people the opportunity to volunteer for a fishbowl interview in front of the group. The group was then split up to do mock interviews with GM representatives and upperclassmen, and everyone got to practice answering questions and received feedback.

Thank you to General Motors for spending their Monday at our General Body Meeting, and we’re excited to see you again at the National Convention! Special thanks to our Academic Chair, Ana for organizing all of this!!

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to an end, we wanted to recap all the events and socials we did! From fundraising at Celebration of Nations to our finale, Latin Dance Night, we had so much fun celebrating our culture and sharing it with the community. Thank you so much to all of our members who showed up and volunteered, everyone who decided to pop out, and a SPECIAL thanks to our Internal Recruitment Chair, Paola, for being the head planner for all of this!!

Last week, we had an Elevator Pitch Workshop with Rachel Heath from Hussmann Corporation. She covered the basics of networking, as well as diving into how to format elevator pitches. We practiced doing elevator pitches with each other and with her, and then we received feedback.
