Vicky Sharma, a first year B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics student, has been selected as a Contributor for Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026 under NumFOCUS.

Working on the DeepForest project, his work focuses on recovering ecological data from historical airborne imagery using Computer Vision and Machine Learning. The aim is to convert previously unusable visual annotations into structured datasets for real world biodiversity research.

With over 23,000 applicants from across the globe, GSoC is one of the most competitive open source programs. Securing a place at such a platform in the first year reflects strong dedication, self driven learning, and technical ability.

His achievement brings pride to the entire college community.

We congratulate Vicky and wish him continued success.
