On the occasion of World Food Day the Department of Applied Biology (Food Science & Technology), USTM, in collaboration with the Department of Rural Development, USTM, organised an awareness programme at Alpha English Higher Secondary School, Nongpoh, Meghalaya, on 16th October 2026.

The programme highlighted the importance of food security, nutrition, and sustainable food systems, emphasising the role of innovation in addressing food-related challenges in line with this year’s theme, “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.” It also focused on reducing food waste, promoting healthy eating habits, and encouraging sustainable practices for a healthier and more food-secure future.

The Department of Applied Biology (Food Science & Technology), University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) celebrated World Food Day-2026 at Umling C & RD Block, District Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya.

The celebration focused on food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and women’s entrepreneurship in food processing.

The programme highlighted the importance of innovation in food processing, reducing food waste, promoting healthy eating habits, and empowering women entrepreneurs to contribute towards a sustainable and food-secure future.
Let us join hands to ensure that everyone has access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food. Together, we can build a healthier, more sustainable, and hunger-free world!

𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝟏.𝟎 | 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

The cultural evening of BioFest 1.0 brought the two-day festival to a spectacular close, celebrating the spirit of art, music, creativity and student talent.

The evening featured a variety of vibrant performances by students, including a heartfelt dance tribute to the late Zubeen Garg. Adding to the glamour of the occasion was a captivating fashion show by designer Haiku Nath, followed by the special appearance of renowned Assamese actor Mr. Ravi Sarma. The celebrations culminated in an electrifying live performance by Bottled Rockets India, enthralling the audience with their energetic musical performance.

The cultural evening was proudly sponsored by Qwik Fuels, making the concluding night a memorable celebration of talent, entertainment and togetherness.

The second and concluding day of BioFest 1.0, organised by the Department of Applied Biology, was filled with enthusiasm, creativity and celebration.

The day featured exciting events, including Biounify ’26 – the Alumni Meet, during which the Departmental Newsletter was launched, SciBeats Dance Competition, E-Sports, Futsal, Bio-Fitness Challenge (Arm Wrestling) and Sci-Treasure Hunt.

The day’s events included a valedictory ceremony graced by Prof. Mohan V. Aware, Director, NIT Arunachal Pradesh, as the Chief Guest. The two-day festival concluded on a vibrant note with a cultural programme, adding a touch of celebration and festivity to the occasion.

Congratulations to all the winners, participants and organisers for making BioFest 1.0 a grand success!

𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝟏.𝟎 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬 @ 𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐌

The Department of Applied Biology, USTM, inaugurated BioFest 1.0 in association with BioNEST, IIT Guwahati TIDF, and Guwahati Biotech Park, celebrating science, innovation, and collaboration.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Chief Guests Dr. Swapnil Sinha, CEO, IITG BioNEST, and Dr. Bula Choudhury, Senior Scientist, Guwahati Biotech Park, along with Guest of Honour Dr. Erwin Fuhrer, Development Engineer, Voxalytic GmbH, Germany, and Assistant Professor, JBMSHST, IIT Guwahati.

The ceremony was followed by a ribbon-cutting at the Amenity Centre, officially marking the opening of the fest.

Various stalls and exciting events, including Quiz Competition, Scientific Pitching, Poster/Model Competition on Bio-waste Utilization, SciRhythm, Futsal, and E-sports, added vibrancy to the celebration. School students from Maria’s Public School and Srimanta Sankardev Academy also participated, making the fest a lively blend of science, creativity, and sportsmanship.
