"As the sun rises on this sacred day, India stands tall, basking in the glow of freedom hard-won." - Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

On 15th August 1947, the pages of history were forever altered as India triumphantly broke free from 200 years of colonial chains. This day is etched in our hearts as a tribute to the unwavering courage and sacrifices of countless freedom fighters who fought for the soul of our nation.

Today, as we mark the 77th anniversary of that defining moment on 15th August 2024, we pay homage to those who made our freedom possible. Let us reaffirm our commitment to the guiding principles of our nation – liberty, equality, secularism, and justice.

As we hoist the tricolor and sing the national anthem, it is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our forefathers to secure our freedom. The Constitution of India, adopted on 26th January 1950, stands as a testament to our commitment to justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

The preamble of our Constitution encapsulates the ideals that bind us together as a nation. It represents a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic where every citizen is guaranteed justice and equality before the law. The framers of our Constitution crafted a document that not only acknowledged the diversity of our nation but also laid the foundation for a harmonious coexistence.

ASETE takes great pride and pleasure in announcing an Alumni Seminar Series, which will be inaugurated with a very enlightening seminar on the topic "Electronics in the age of Data Science" by the revered Professor Ajoy Kumar Ray. Professor Ray was awarded the Padma Shri by the honourable president of India. He served as the last Vice Chancellor of Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur and later as the first Director of Indian Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology, Shibpur till 2018, and throughout his tenure he has worked tirelessly for the betterment of the institute. He is also a former Professor of Electronics and Electrical Communications Engineering, IIT Kharagpur. Professor Ray is currently active in research areas of Pattern Recognition, Machine Intelligence, Medical Imaging, and Image Processing.

This seminar will focus on providing an overview of the ample opportunities in uniting the emerging possibilities in Data Science with the evergreen applications of Electronics.

The Academic Society of Electronics and Telecommunications is delighted to announce an insightful session scheduled for January 11th, titled "Learning-based Intelligent Imaging and Beyond," featuring Dr. Srutarshi Banerjee. Dr. Banerjee, a distinguished Postdoctoral Researcher at the X-ray Science Division, Argonne National Laboratory, brings a wealth of expertise in computational imaging, machine learning, and neuromorphic computing.

The session promises a journey through the evolution of imaging systems in tandem with the rise of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Banerjee will delve into his extensive research, spanning task-specific video acquisition, physics-inspired machine learning for radiation sensor characterization, computational imaging for nanoscale 3D imaging of magnetic domains, and neuromorphic computing for object recognition and tactile sensing.

The highlight of the talk will be Dr. Banerjee's groundbreaking work on a reconfigurable image acquisition system. This system optimizes high-resolution image sensors with limited compute power, adapting to the surrounding physical world and compressing data based on scene features.
