IT IS THEIR INDEPENDENCE DAY:
India observes Independence Day, on 15 August, commemorating the nation's independence from the British Empire on 15 August 1947. India attained independence following an Independence Movement noted for largely nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience. On 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India , raised the Indian national flag above the Lahore Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. The Prime Minister has raised the flag and given a speech.
“Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment, we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity.”
—Tryst with Destiny speech, Jawaharlal Nehru, 15 August 1947
We have came miles in the journey of development till this 68th Independence Day But things didn’t much changed for deprived and marginalized section of society. Economic and social inequality is sustaining yet in Indian society.
But the Independent Day celebration of CURAJ has demonstrated the rays of hope and social change. On this occasion Department of Social Work has participated in very active and pragmatic way. Department could represent two marginalized and deprived sections of the society. Here are the stories of change and concern:
1. He is a born singer:
This is the story of a boy from nearby village Bandarsindari who comes from marginalized community called “RAJNAT”. This boy worked as a daily wages worker. For him higher education was the big dream. Last year he came in to contacts of students of MSW in the community who were engaged in field work over there. This self-motivated boy got the inspiration to pursue higher studies. Finally by cracking the CUCET nationally, he is a part of a department. His inherited singing talent attracted the august gathering. He sung a song (Dil diya hai, jaan bhi denege, aye vatan tere liye) with full enthusiasm in patriotic mood on the Independent Day celebration ceremony on badminton court of CURAJ. He won the heart of gathering.
2. Little stars of CURAJ:
this is the story of those families who migrated for livelihood from their native places. They left their home, property, siblings, relatives and identity far behind to construct our big buildings. Here they are under the tinny roof. Their children do not opt a proper school. On this Independent Day these children glitter as a shining stars. Their ultimate performance boomed the glory of the Day. They are the representatives of Day Care Centre of CURAJ. They made CURAJian to feel proud on them as they are the worthy member of this CURAJ family.
