Aarogyadhara Rural Camp 2026: Learning Through Community Engagement

The Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda (ĀCĀRA), through the Amrita ADAPT Project, collaborated in Aarogyadhara Rural Camp 2026 at Oachira, integrating preventive healthcare, community engagement, and experiential learning.

A Public Health Initiative under the Ministry of Ayush’s Ayurswasthya Yojana, Amrita ADAPT focuses on prediabetes prevention through screening, risk assessment, health education, and lifestyle modification.

BSW students from Amrita School of Social and Behavioural Sciences received hands-on training in household surveys, diabetes risk assessment, community health education, resource mapping, and school-based substance abuse awareness. The six-day camp strengthened their understanding of community-based research and public health practice.

The household survey, introduced beyond the original project proposal to enhance community engagement, was appreciated by the Ministry of Ayush. Student presentations also generated valuable insights for future implementation and collaboration.

We thank the Ministry of Ayush, Amrita leadership, Oachira Grama Panchayat, community partners, faculty, and students for their support.

At Amrita, we continue to translate knowledge into meaningful public health action through Ayurveda, scientific approaches, and community participation.

The Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Division, Ministry of Education, Government of India, has sanctioned the project “Arogya Bhaishajya Vibhaga: Development of 9 Text Books” under the IKS Textbook and Course Materials Writing Scheme.
Dr. Rammanohar P., Principal Investigator, Professor and Research Director, Amrita School of Ayurveda, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is overseeing the project.
This initiative will contribute to the development of high-quality academic resources for strengthening Ayurveda and Indian Knowledge Systems in education and research.

Dr. Rammanohar Puthiyedath, Professor and Research Director, Amrita School of Ayurveda, received the Suvarna Dhanvanthri Award on 20 September 2026 at Ayurveda Pariksha Ta**ra Abhyasa (APTA) – Vakyam 1, New Delhi, in recognition of his significant contributions to the study, interpretation and dissemination of the Ayurvedic Samhitas, integrating classical wisdom with contemporary scholarship.
The award was presented in the distinguished presence of Sri Sri Vishwaprasanna Teertha Swamiji, the 35th presiding seer of Pejawar Mutt, Udupi. Pejawar Mutt is one of the eight historic Ashta Mathas established in the tradition of Sri Madhvacharya, which have played a significant role in preserving and propagating Dvaita Vedanta and sustaining the rich spiritual and philosophical heritage of Udupi. The presence and blessings of Sri Sri Vishwaprasanna Teertha Swamiji, representing this distinguished spiritual tradition, made the occasion particularly special and memorable.
Prof. Mahesh Vyas, Dean, All India Institute of Ayurveda, was the other recipient of the Suvarna Dhanvanthri Award. The ceremony was also graced by Baba Ramdev, Patanjali Yogpeeth and Prof. Srinivas Varakhedi, Vice Chancellor, Central Sanskrit University.
The occasion celebrated the scholarly contributions of both award recipients to Ayurvedic knowledge and Samhita studies, highlighting their efforts to advance the relevance of classical Ayurvedic wisdom in contemporary research and education.
The entire programme was coordinated by Acharya Mahanidhi, whose sustained efforts to promote Samhita-based studies in Ayurveda are commendable. Dr. Puthiyedath also expressed his gratitude to Dr. Raghuram Bhat, his colleague since college days, for his valuable support and encouragement. Dr. Bhat is presently the Chief Administrative Officer of the IKS Division, Ministry of Education, and former President of MARBISM, NCISM.
The award marks a meaningful recognition of the continuing contribution of Samhita scholarship to the advancement of Ayurveda and its engagement with contemporary knowledge systems.
