School Elective Display 2026 was where curiosity took over — materials, movement, sound, stories, and ideas all colliding in the best way possible.
At MIT Institute of Design, School Electives are designed to let students step outside their core discipline and explore something completely new. Students choose from a wide range of subjects across design, art, craft, technology, and experience-based learning — working in mixed groups, learning by doing, and engaging with different ways of thinking and making.
From shaping bamboo into thoughtful forms to exploring leather work through material, texture, and craft, to choreographing movement for the stage — every elective pushed boundaries in its own way. Calligraphic strokes turned into bold brand identities, while dynamic toys brought play and motion to life.
Craft met patience in macramé and jewellery making, while sound design and visual storytelling created immersive worlds. Digital met physical through ZBrush sculpting, portrait painting, and live outdoor sketching — capturing both imagination and reality.
Food became experience through design and business thinking, while architectural motifs were reimagined through embossing. Some explored structure by interpreting, designing, and constructing, while others built strategy and narratives through board game design.
Leather work brought in a hands-on understanding of material, detail, and durability, while mindful adventures encouraged stepping back, reflecting, and exploring beyond the obvious.
Different directions. Same drive — to question, to make, to push beyond the obvious.
